ECS AMD690G mobo drivers

JEDI

Lifer
Driver Link

I just bought this mobo for my AMD X2 5000 Black Edition.

1) Do i need Via's 4-in-1 drivers? (All my other mobos seem to need it.)

2) If i'm not doing raid, should I install the Southbridge driver package?

3) Can i use the driver's directly from ATI's site instead of waiting for ECS to update theirs?

First, make an offering to the gods now that you are rid of VIA. Never go back. Ever.

Second, that link has drivers on it that are very old...do not use drivers from that link.

Here is where you should be getting drivers from:

Chipset (including Southbridge): AMD (formerly ATI) Driver Page Choose your OS, then Integrated/Motherboard, then Radeon X1250. Just install the whole package....and if you are running XP, make sure you've got .NET 2.0 (with patches) installed first before running it. Also, make sure to download the AVIVO package, there's a link on the driver page once you navigate into it.

Realtek HD Audio: Current Realtek HD Audio link

Realtek 8110SC NIC: Current Realtek 8110SC NIC Drivers

thx!

how can i tell if i have net2.0 already? (i'm installing my winxp image from my Sempron build and dont remember what i have installed.)

whats AVIVO?

If you go into Add/Remove Programs, if there's not a .NET 2.0 listing, then you don't have it. You can also run Windows Update and it'll be in Recommended (or is it Optional?) section (so, not Critical, not Hardware, the other one in the middle).

If it's listed in there, you don't have it installed. Be aware there are a few updates for it, so, after you install it, make sure to reboot and then go back into Windows Update and see if there's another update for it. Keep doing that until Windows Update shows clear. Only then install the AMD drivers.

Also, you /should/ install the AMD drivers first...as they control the motherboard. However, I do believe it's possible for you to install the NIC driver and then get on Windows Update if you have to.

What I've done is manually download all the .NET's and their patches. That way, I can install Windows, put all the .NET's on, and then install the drivers in the proper order.

AVIVO is video codec accelleration via the chipset instead of CPU...you want to install that, it helps with CPU usage and power consumption when you're watching video's.

Honestly, what I do is put 1.0 on, do all the patches, then put 2.0 on, do all the patches, and then 3.0, all the patches.

I didn't even know there was a 3.5...shouldn't hurt to put it on though after the others...

why do i need .net in the 1st place for the ati drivers?

i installed catalyst 8.1 (drivers only) and it worked, albeit that 1600x1200 gives me a black screen 🙁 1280x1024 works fine.

would .net fix my black screen @1600x1200 problem?

edit:
catalyst control center (CCC) requires .net 2.0. the drivers itself dont.

i installed .net 3.5. then installed CCC. still getting a black screen at 1600x1200.

then i plugged in my Samsung 204B 20" LCD. 1600x1200 works. something about the Dell 2001fp that onboard video doesnt like at 1600x1200. 🙁

I doubt for the actual video drivers themselves you need .NET anything version, in fact if you go to the page where you can download each component seperately, you can download just the driver itself, and in that case, I don't believe you need .NET.

However, if you do that, you need to use ATI Tool or ATI Tray Tool or whatever to change any options other that resolution, color depth, and refresh rate, as the driver only install leaves you with no CCC.

So I'm like 99.9% sure what you need .NET for is CCC.
