Hi, everyone.
I just ordered an ECS A780GM-A motherboard online. When it arrived, the factory-sealed anti-static bag had already been cut open at one end, the board was dusty on the area where the CPU fan blows air through the heatsink fins; there was also dust on the PCI slots. The bottom of the board had some sticky film on it and regularly-spaced semicircles at the bottom. At first, I though someone spilled juice on it, but with the semicircles, I'm guessing some stupid person used it and placed it on top of some bubble wrap instead of some heat-resistant material, and some of the plastic material melted and stuck onto the board.
But since the seller is far away, and all the other items which it was shipped with was good, I thought it wasn't really a big problem, although I should've been given a discount since the board was used.... I was wrong, though - it WAS a very big problem - the board wasn't working at all.
I know because I tried the CPU, RAM, and PSU (Corsair VX 450W) on a Redfox AM690G motherboard, and everything was fine. I put them on the ECS board again. No POST beep, no BIOS activating the video and displaying BIOS info on screen.
I reset CMOS. Still no POST nor video. I moved the CPU, RAM, and PSU back to the Redfox board. No problems. Then back to the ECS board... same problem. I'll be having the motherboard replaced as soon as I've discussed the problem with the retailer. I'm demanding that warranty be issued from the date a BRAND NEW board is released, because they gave me an used one - that isn't unreasonable, is it?
Anyway, I'd still like to know... is there any way I can fix this myself rather than returning it? The shipping is a hassle, and I'm just wondering, because the two heatsinks on the boards, the CPU, and the RAM modules, and the board itself, get warm, meaning that they are being powered and working, right? The problem is, there is no POST.
Maybe there's a safe way to remove the material that melted on the bottom surface??
I would also like to know from other buyers of this board - did the ones you buy have factory-heated seals at the seams of the bag, or was one end open but sealed with tape. Because I think I should insist that they give me one which has never been opened since it came out of the factory. If they want to put a store warranty store, they can just put a slit in the bag where they intend to stick it.
