Does anyone happen to own this board and can you confirm whether or not a Geforce 9600GT or 8800GT will run okay in it?

I've seen some discussion that the 8800GT and 9600GT video cards do not always work well (or at all) in older boards, even though PCI Express is supposed to be backward compatible.

The chipset on this motherboard is 945GC, ICH7 and PCI Express 1.0a with a 24-pin + 4-pin power connector. From my searches I see some people have an 8800GT running okay on a similar chipset, but others don't.

I know it's a cheapie/freebie, but I'd rather keep it if it will work. If it definitely won't work with one of these cards, then I won't even bother unsealing the box.

Thanks.

I don't see why it shouldn't run fine. Maybe the people reporting problems are having them because of insufficient power? After all, if someone goes cheap on the board (with 945GC chipset) then they might be going cheap on the PSU as well.

Just make sure you use a good PSU. 😉

Thanks for the reply. I hope so.

I will be using a new Corsair HX520, which should be plenty from what I've read.
