That is a long flight, when the g/f went (from Pittsburgh) she flew directly from Chicago to Hawaii. 9 hours IIRC, plus the short jump from Pittsburgh to Chicago.

Hmm, I should probably edit the topic. Cuz since it's an award flight, there's no direct flight. It'll be from DC->San Fran->Hawaii.

That's not too bad then. 6 (guessing there) hours DC to SF + 5 from there to Hawaii.

With a decent layover that would be quite doable in coach.

award tickets to Hawaii are very tough to get. Are you sure you are able to get the award at either "standard" redemption points? Personally, I would go economy as they cut back so much in 1st that it isn't worth the extra 60k which is the cost of 2 standard domestic awards. Remember, you all will arrive in Hawaii at the same time regardless if you fly in 1st or not.

Yep, I looked last night. Def. possible it could've been sold out by now, but I kind of doubt it...unless of course, it says "none available" if I actually go through the entire process...which would suck real real bad

If only it was a 1:1 relationship. Ahhh, how life would be grand, and how airlines woudl be outta business.

ive been flying from NC to China/Taiwan since I was 3 yrs old in coach...

It isn't that bad. (It isn't that good either.)

That said, I've never flown first class...I've never even seen 1st class on a 747...but business is nice, and if 1st > business...well then I can only imagine :D

The only time to fly 1st class is international trips. Paying hundreds/thousands of dollars more for a 1 hour flight is just not worth it. But luxury for 8+ hours when you can actually have a headrest and sleep may be worth it. You arive refreshed and thus can do stuff on your first day/last day of your trip instead of rushing to bed to sleep. Basically, it extends your trip by a day or two and that can easily be worth the money to some people. Hawaii is far enough away, that I'd take the 1st class.

That would be wonderful:
1) Buy a trip for 1,000 miles
2) On that trip you travel 1,000 miles
3) Thus you get a 1,000 mile reward for traveling 1,000 miles.
4) Cash in that 1,000 mile reward for another trip which is 1,000 miles
5) But wait, now you just flew another 1,000 miles - meaning you get another 1,000 mile reward.
6) Cash in that 1,000 mile reward for another trip which is 1,000 miles
7) But wait, now you just flew another 1,000 miles - meaning you get another 1,000 mile reward.
8) Cash in that 1,000 mile reward for another trip which is 1,000 miles
9) But wait, now you just flew another 1,000 miles - meaning you get another 1,000 mile reward.
10) Cash in that 1,000 mile reward for another trip which is 1,000 miles
11) But wait, now you just flew another 1,000 miles - meaning you get another 1,000 mile reward.
12) Repeat

We'd only have to buy one ticket in our lives and then can fly for free for the rest of time. That would be wonderful. Or we can use logic and realize that airlines won't give you a free 1,000 mile trip for every 1,000 miles you fly.

Always first class if you can afford it.
I dont think the food and the booze is that big a deal, but the seats are so much nicer. Especially for a long flight.

I once had to buy a ticket at the last minute. All they had left was Executive,
so they gave me a big discount.

Best trip ever. The stewardesses seem to go out of their way to make you happy, and you get treated a little better by everyone. Food was OK. Didn't drink much.

If I can ever get it for a reasonable price, (i.e. NOT 5 times as much as Coach) then I always fly 1st.
