Economy is getting better

inb4 the usual xenophobes call you a liar or a tool or a slave or someone to inevitably lose their job again

I'll just call you a troll.

It has picked up. I've heard bosses at work talk for a while now that it's fairly difficult to find people, even though they've recently added a few (engineering positions) they've been looking for more.

lol, temp for a year.hows that shitty minimum wage job workin out for ya.sadly there are alot more citys and states then the one you live in,perhaps you should look at those before you think the job market is improving

Or maybe you should consider that some cities and states are abject failures and people (the underclass notwithstanding by definition) shouldn't live in them.

The job market is so hot, let me tell you how hot it is. It's so hot, that I have two jobs, from the same company! Freaking dual-employment...

After being laid off last year my sister changed fields from working as a lab rat to a computer programmer. She loves it. She's currently working as a temp making $28 an hour. They like her so much that she will most likely work for them full time making $70k a year easily. Her wife works as a librarian at Boston University and makes $60k. She also gets amazing benefits.

I think it depends on your skill set. If you have the right skills and are seeking employment in an area where they desperately need people you will find work. No doubt! The people who keep complaining that the job market still sucks are the ones who don't have the skills that are in demand. A literature and history major will still have a difficult time in this market.

There are lots of companies that keep people temps for basically ever. I worked for Sony fixing laptops, there were probably 100 techs and all but 4 were temps. Sony never really hires people. They keep them on as temps and let the temp agency they go thru do all the paper work and other back end dealings. A lot of the "temps" there were making pretty good money, $20+ an hour.

Depends on the field really, and location. Here, IT/Tech seems to be kinda stagnant as companies try to downsize and outsource that stuff more and more, or just move to "the cloud". Stuff like trades is booming though with all the new houses and buildings going up.

yep, lots of openings in some fields. I could get more $$ in more expensive cities. Yet housing is up there even more. The truth is, number of states where you can afford your own home (a decent benchmark of middle class status) is low.

I think there was pent up demand due to the uncertainty of socialized medicine. Now that we are almost a year into it, I think companies are starting to loosen the purse strings a tad.

So long as planes need fuel I'll have a job. LOL I think it varies greatly at where you are located. California or Detroit, not so much. North Dakota or Texas, yes.

My wife and I have fixed salaries, though our bonuses vary...

I'm young enough that I want to see the stock markets tank a few times before we retire.... That would allow our investments to go a little further down the road. A stronger economy just means higher gas prices and higher costs for luxury goods.
