Economy hits 2.4% Growth Rate in Q2

Goddamned irresponsible tax cuts. :|

I bet if Bush hadn't cut any taxes the economy would be doing soooo much better. Bastard.

But from the New York Times

"An unexpected and sharp decline in consumer confidence jolted Wall Street yesterday, sending stocks lower on investor fears of a stumbling economy in the months ahead."

The Post giveth, and the Times taketh away. We aren't out of the woods yet.

I think it has more to do with Bush's stunning good looks.

I think the numbers are also more than a little skewed by the 44.1% increase in defense spending.

Let me guess, you would rather we didn't spend anything on defense and all ran through the streets with flowers in our hair, holding hands, and subsistence farming for income?

OK, so let's spend billions and billions of tax payer money to wage war in Middle East to fatten the oil company, the big construction company, the defesne industry's bank account. As long as a few percent of that comes back into our pocket, and all is well?

Actually, sir, we spend 'billions and billions' a year so people like you maintain your freedom to voice your opinion, regardless of how illogically you do it.

Is it just me or was I under the impression free speech was gauranteed by our Constitution not our military?

Come on John, that is such a generic phrase that has caught on like wildfire after 9-11. The soldiers fighting in Iraq, Afghanstan, and around the world aren't maintaining my freedom, allowing me to voice my opinion, or preventing a dictatorship in the US. I seriously don't know what the hell they are doing over there. I can't believe the politicians in Washington have brain washed the people like this.

The tangential transit from the thread topic does bring back happy memories.. flowers in our hair and holding hands... a love in... oh hum... back to the thread...

Does the 44.1% economic boost have an offset hidden amongst the flora?

free healthcare for everybody!!!!........

if its worth stomping another tyrannical dictator to make the world a safer place....

if u think military spending is a waste, then u'd should look at the money we throw at the UN as a waste, (aka Peace spending) because they are League of Nations 2.0

and then Germany invaded Poland, marched thru Belgium....

A constitution without any teeth to back it up is just a piece of paper. Did the Declaration of Independence grant us freedom from England or did our Minutemen kicking Tory ass do it?

Kindly explain how our invasion of Iraq has preserved our right to free speech. I did not realize we were an Iraqi colony.

For bonus points, explain how the "PATRIOT" act has preserved our right to free speech. Please translate from the original German as needed.

Lets see:
The US attacked Afghanistan in revenge for the attack in the US on 9/11/01
The US attacked Iraq because, it needed a base in the Middle East to protect oil supplies and Israel.
The US is in Korea, Europe, Japan, etc to maintain its sphere of influence.

I wonder how much it would affect or hurt the US citizen's freedoms if the US pulled out of Korea, Japan, and Europe?
I know it would save a lot of money which means less taxes.

"He noted that the latest installment of tax relief ? rebate checks reflecting an increase of the per-child tax credit to $1,000 from the previous $600 ? are in the mail and already have reached some families. "That money will help American families move the economy forward," Bush said."

This is Bush's Economic Policy?

The Country needs Jobs God dangit, not hand out checks.

OK without that military protecting our land that constitution becomes pretty much useless.

Here is how war in Iraq and Afghanistan protects our freedom:

1) Attacking countries that support terrorists helps prevent them from launching suicide attacks such as 9/11.
2) Without such terrorist attacks, the Department of Homeland Defense has no reason to further trample our constitution.

Another large scale terrorist attack, and America will be a police state ruled by the DoHLD gestapo, in cooperation with RIAA.

These are not handout checks. These are refunds on taxes paid.

Nevermind the fact that all the Founding Fathers were against the very concept of a standing army. That Jefferson himself said that for a nation to have a standing army was the very foundation of tyranny. But then hey, we get morons like JohnGalt here (who oddly enough seems to have very different views than the character he took his name from) who seem to believe that we only have freedom when we are in fear...

God knows I hate taxes more than anyone else here but those checks are neither handouts nor refunds. They're bribes.

Bribes for what I am not sure. They surely will not be enough to guarantee a vote in 04.

Bribes, Yes, that's a better word and useless bribes at that, Thank You.

Handout came to mind because it is an insult to the public. I didn't believe in the "Trickle Down Economics" crap when Reagan was in and don't see it doing any good with Bush Jr either.
