11-29-2004 Cingular To Cut 10 Percent of Workforce

Customer service is sure to suffer, if only with glitches in billing -- a back-office process that few telcos seem to be able to master. Also, consumers' ability to take their numbers with them when they leave a provider -- a measure that went into affect almost a year to the day before Cingular made its announcement -- means they can bolt at the slightest provocation, assuming they are willing to pay to leave their contract.

Of course, competitors are waiting with open arms to welcome disgruntled Cingular customers.

Perhaps if you spent more time looking for a job and less time btching on ATP&N about how there are no jobs, you'd be in better shape Chicken Little.

Perhaps you should try reading my posts before spewing.

I've done more than my share of looking. In fact as posted I have landed at least 3 different jobs but have turned them down because I would be in even worse shape since these jobs pay Wally World and Mickey D wages.

Most other people with those kind of numbers have jobs and lives, neither of which you seem to be able to hold on to. You on the other hand post constantly about how Bush is personally ruining your life. Find a shrink.

"You on the other hand post constantly about how Bush is personally ruining your life."

12-3-2004 November Job Growth Unexpectedly Soft

A surprisingly soft 112,000 new U.S. jobs were created in November, the Labor Department said on Friday, casting a shadow across an already downbeat holiday sales season with consumers apparently worried by scarce work and high oil prices.

The November figure -- the weakest since July -- came in well below Wall Street economists' forecasts for 180,000 new jobs

In addition, Labor lowered its estimates for job growth in both September and October. October's gain was marked down to 303,000 from an originally reported 337,000-job increase. The department cut September's total to 119,000 from 139,000.

What's so surprising???

This is the norm for this FUD Administration. Of course they changed the numbers lower after the Election.

Edit: I gave more credit than should've, I wasn't awake yet and thought it said 120,000, was 8,000 less than that. Too bad the FLL FYD dministration can't use the "Not Awake Yet" excuse.

However that does apply to the FLL American Sheep.

no, i am fully capable of handling the ruining of my own life, as most of us are. what is not fair is how bush is ruining the lives of the children and grandchildren of this nation by crushing them with insurmountable mega debt. but i'm sure your solution as well as the administration's is to grow more cotton

The economy is just fantastic. Those who have not lost their jobs by now surly will by 2008. Then they can apologize for Bush while they are lazily drawing UI benefits instead of going out to Kmart to stock the shelfs.

Benefits do not go for that long.

My point was that I would love to see how some of the "solutions" that the working Bush supporters have offered to the "lazy unemployed liberals" would play out when THEY loose their good paying jobs. Just a matter of time before the people who replaced the "xxx manual laborers" with automated machines, too, find themselves obsolete in the new economy. Karma is a bitch. There will be 2 classes, the uber rich and those who serve them.

2-17-2005 Jobless Claims Drop to Four-Year Low

Even though the last recession ended in November 2001, companies kept laying off employees until the summer of 2003 as they succeeded in getting more output from their existing work force. That effort gave the country strong gains in productivity but also contributed to a sustained jobless recovery.

However, in 2004, payroll jobs increased by 2.2 million, after three years of job losses, and last month's job gains allowed President Bush to escape the dubious distinction of being the first president since Herbert Hoover to experience a net job loss during his first term in office.

So when the numbers do not agree with you they are bulls*it. Yet when they do you are correct. Interesting philosophy.

Naysayers will cherry pick as well as anyone else.

figures can also be twisted, dervide and micro-analyzed to provide support for the desired result.

being positive about the economy can only help it b/c it will increase consumer confidence. When Kerry and Company bash the economy they are effectively hurting it, even if minutely. Why won't Bush admit he was wrong to go into Iraq? Simple, because it would decrease morale and only create more problems. Why is he so bullish on the economy? Because it helps consumer confidence and will help it more if he was bashing it.

No, I go by real people affected by being out of real jobs.

Gotta love the conflicting reports month after month under this Regime:

2-17-2005 Leading Economic Indicators Fall in Jan.

NEW YORK - A closely watched gauge of future U.S. economic activity slipped 0.3 percent in January, slightly more than expected, indicating possible weakness in the economy in coming months.

Like it was supposedly booming best than ever in last 30 years, sure it was

The most telling sign the economy is doing well is that the United States has the fastest growing economy of ANY industrialized nation on earth. Better than France, better than Germany, better than Japan. France and Germany's unemployment is over 8% while ours is 5.4%. Our economy is *not* as bad as John Kerry and liberals say it is.

Yep, amazing how it can look and sound when LYING.

umm, dave, thats all true, why are you calling it lying? oh wait nevermind, you refuse to see things anyway but they way you want to see them. Sorry, forgot you were blind.

its because he forgot to mension that the number of people going bankrupt is at an all time high, especially here in iowa

also the economy appears to be booming because too many americans are living outside their means, ho many people on this forum have 2 car payments, a house payment and college loans to pay back? probably quite a few, i for one don't, i don't contribut to the ever expanding debt of this country, i'ma democrat who lives like a republican

i got through college with no debt with a swimming scholarship/academic scholarship because i worked hard i school
i got a degree in biochemistry
i've been investing in the stock market since 2000 and have about 11k saved in mostly tech stocks ( i started with 5k)
i bought a used car 2 years ago with money i saved (its a 10 year old car now)
i'm now a phd student who gets payed to do research and when i get my phd in 3 years i'll probably apply to med school and an MD/PHD so i get through debt free

too many people live outside their means, and what happens when the consumer base is so in debt that consumer spending must drop? what will happen to this booming economy then? now add in high interest rates, high bancruptcy, and high health insurance, i see a disaster looming

i read the average american non-mortgage, non-car debt is around 18K, this is simply unacceptable

The P&N Republicans and Christians from Iowa as well as all the Economy reports out of Iowa the last couple of years swear that Iowa is the Mecca of Economic Boom in the U.S.

So just like the Employment numbers, what is the real deal with Iowa???

New housing starts hit 21 year high.

Lower interest mortgage rates seem to be driving the housing market to ever higher levels. This will boost the economy to an extent even with rising interest rates.

Comment on the bankruptcy rate: I read that 2 million people file for bankruptcy each year in the US. 1 Million are from medical costs with 700,000 being middle class WITH health insurance. :Q

(just cause busnesses are hiring in iowa is not all that great if they don't pay a livable wage)

ask them about maytag too

yeah its pretty sad, people like cadkindaguy will push this (not to put him down), to know the real situation you have to talk to the people who are in that unemployment bracket or know people who are, i generally talk to the janitors here alot they are the few americans that actually work in the molecular biology building where i work, and you wouldn't beleive the employment stories they have of business they have worked for in DM and ames. these business generally use employment agencies that way they don't have to pay health insurance for the workers, then they fire them before 6 months so that they don't pay them full wages, then they are hired again a few weeks later, and this is not from one of the janitors, i have heard this from 4 or 5 of them, one of these businesses is danfoss (i think thats the name, its near 35 as you pass near ames), i've heard barrilla does it too
