echinacea and birth control

my chick has a sore throat and has some echinacea. googled and went to webmd but cant find any conclusive argument that it will impair the birth-control pills she is on.

does anyone know?

(all sources i found seem to have an equal number saying it will and it wont)

thanks.

<possible thread crap>

Echinacea has shown to have no actual impact in preventing sickness or speeding up recovery once you become sick.

University of Wisconsin and a few other medical universities have shown tests backing this.

yeah. its part of a throat thing she is taking, not the entire thing.
its got zinc and some citrus stuff and some sort of chemical numbing spray, etc etc.

What on Earth would make you believe that it would affect the BC?

My girlfriend takes echinacea all the time.. 😕

I wouldn't doubt that they can affect eachother but.. I dunno.

How could it possibly affect anything once the hormones are in your system? The hormones are there much of the time anyway...

If in doubt, just make sure she doesen't take the echinacea and her pill at the same time, I guess..

Just because one study couldn't find evidence doesen't mean it isn't true.

I thought that it was well known that echinacea gives your immune system a kick in the pants.

A huge number of "all natural" supplements have adverse reactions with perscription medication.

It's probably true, but the placebo is also very real. Even the implication of improvement is enough to ease the worries of many people, so provided that any given supplement isn't actually harmful in any way, I think it has a valuable psychologically medicinal value.

I'm sure...

I'm totally open to the idea, I had just never heard that before... specifically regarding echinacea and BC....

Um, my sister takes BC and echinacea and she's not pregnant - of course, that is just one person.

Edit: Before some of you dumbasses get off track, my sister has a cell phone alarm for when she has to take her BC pills, and my parents are both pharmacists so I'm aware of what she is doing, since she gets the medicine from them and I overhear these things.
