Hey guys

Nice to be crunching for the ECCp TeAm :)

I've been away from the forums for about ~3 days now. My ISP's DNS seems to be down, and I can get some sites, but not the forums :( - Anyway, I've come into work (on a Saturday - now thats dedication! :Q) to post this.

I've been offered an AMD K6-2 350, and I'd like to take it, but I need a question answered. I dont have any spare room to put it in my bedroom, but I'm allowed to put it in the garage. So far so good, but I dont have a long enough network cable to network them! Is sneakernetting possible with ECCp? Is it hard/fiddly etc? Also is it even worth bothering with the idea? How many DPs would fit on a floppy disk?

Thanks for any replies, I dont know when I'll be able to look at this / respond.

I have a favour to ask. Since I can still send/recieve emails properly, could people email me some replies? My email address is migroo@blueyonder.co.uk. Many thanks. Also if you email me, respond to this thread to say so, to save others the trouble of emailing me :)

Thanks a lot. Crunch on! :D

Oh, just FYI, I am back in the office on Tuesday (around 72 hours time) as Monday is a bank holiday.

I might not be able to reply until then.

Just for some amusement - I am downloading enough SETI WUs to last my work fleet until Tuesday. I need around 45, and I am doing it on 56k.... *YAWN...*

I wish I had ECCp setup here too :)

Yeah, More stats to go through! ;)

Someone will eventually show up that can help you, I have installed on a K6-2 300 at work.
no instrusion on the other apps that run on that machine :)

I tried Seti on there, but it took over 30-34 hours to complete a WU, as this is our main service manuals machine and
it's used by all the techs !

ECCp is fast, I got 10 DP in 2 days on there! :coo;

Hope someone answers you soon. Take care, Migroo.

Yes, sneakernetting ECCp-109 is quite possible. I did it for a long time whilst trying to get my 802.11b card working in Linux. :)

I'll assume you're using Windows, as it is a pretty safe assumption :):

1. Quit the client.
2. Browse to your eccp109 directory, and find the dplist file. There may also be a dplist.log file, simply ignore that one.
3. Copy it to your portable storage device of choice.
4. Open it (the one on the HD, not the copy you just made) in notepad, and delete everything. This is to prevent dupes.
5. Restart the client.
6. Take the floppy (or zip disk, or pen drive, whatever) to a connected computer running eccp.
7. Quit the client.
8. Open the dplist on the floppy, as well as the dplist on the connected pc's HD, in notepad.
9. Cut and paste the entire contents of the dplist from the floppy into the dplist on the HD.
10. Start the client. All the DP's you just brought over will be sent to ND like normal.

If you want to confirm they were sent, you can check the bottom of the dplist.log on the connected comp's HD. If it says "x of x points successfully transmitted" (where x is the number of DP's you brought over) the dump was successful.

Another method, which is nice if you're using a zip disk, pen drive, or anything else big enough to hold the entire client package:

1. Stop the client.
2. Move the ENTIRE eccp109 directory onto your disk.
3. Take it to any connected computer.
4. Run the client, click "send" if neccissary, and then quit when it's done sending.
5. Take the disk back to the nonconnected computer.
6. Move everything back to its original place and run the client.

I hope this has been helpful. :)

Migroo,

In the FAQ there's a item called Running ECCp Non-networked that should help you on that.

paf077,

I'm usually around here but its a Saturday and I took the morning out to do some shopping and now I'm going to recruit some of the neighbours PC's ;)...

OMG my net connection is working! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D (sorry, I'm excited)

Thanks everyone for contributing to this thread. I'll get it setup and let you know how it goes.

My garage sneakernetted PCs might add up as follows if all goes really well:

K6-2 350
PII 350
Celeron 400 - 66 bus (overclocked if I can get a good mobo for it)

Thanks again!
