ECC with Athlons

Hi. Is it just me, or is there a serious lack of support for ECC RAM on the Athlon platform (and yes, even Intel doesn't support it on the i815 apparently)?

What are users to do nowadays to achieve solutions which incorporate (and make use of) ECC RAM? Are there any viable ECC-capable choices other than the i440BX remaining nowadays?

(I am speaking with respect to commodity motherboards, and not high-priced server boards).

(oh yeah, if you just want to bicker about whether or not ECC is necessary or useful, please do not bother responding).
 
My KA7-100 has support for ECC memory and that is the VIA KX133 chipset. I believe the KT7 socket A board does as well.
 
I'm pretty sure the KX/KT133 boards support it.

Realistically, beyond the server market, the demad is so low that memory manufacturers and home-user chipset designers put it in as a "just because we can" feature.

You answered your own question in your disclaimer. ECC provides no benefit to the typical user. Why bother offering support for it in a product intended for the general public? The Athlon is not aimed at the server market, AMD themselves will tell you that. That will change with the release of the Mustang.
