ECC vs no ECC ram

I was looking to add a different ram chip.
But I look around and I see ECC ram and then non ECC ram.
My manual doesnt specify. So should I use ECC or should I not use ECC?
 
ECC is more or less for servers and you could check the manufacture's website to see if your board supports ECC.
 
I bougt ECC RDRAM for my P4. My EE wife would've kicked my butt if I'd bought non ECC.
It wasn't much more expensive and it's worth the extra data integrity to me.
 
I have used both and noticed no difference. I used ECC for years and then got a free stick of non-ECC - which of course made me unable to run ECC anymore - and the only thing I noticed was the increase in speed from the extra RAM. I know that theoretically non-ECC RAM is faster, but I severely doubt that it's noticable. Unless it's a mission-critical server you're running, stick with non-ECC.
