Can I run ECC memory in a regular desktop board without problems? I don't care if it is a bit slower, since I can get the memory for about 1/2 price. The board is a MSI 785G board and there is nothing on MSI's site about whether it can run ECC memory.
If the board supports it, sure. If the board doesn't say, but the chipset supports it, then it will probably work. If the chipset doesn't support it, I wouldn't bother trying.
Most don't support it. It's why you can get it cheaper on ebay. I got some ECC memory off ebay by accident because I didn't know there was a difference. It wouldn't post in the 3 mobos I tried.
