situations actually getting kind of scary...

if it's actually airborne... get real scared.

Yea I had heard this somewhere on a news report as well, which threw me because the "smart' people on these forums keep saying you can only get it if you are butt raped by someone with it. Since I come here for all my professional plague information, I decided CNN was wrong about it as they are most things.

I seriously doubt if the doctors and nurses that have died from it lately were butt raping anyone.

Ebola does not survive well in the open. IIRC UV radiation (sunlight, hello) kills it in seconds. It isn't suitable for aerial transmission. It is NOT a major threat unless it has been modified for weaponization.

Depends. It's a pretty useless weapon because it cannot be directed against xyz group or persons. Bombs are effective, and I guess any collateral damage is to terrorists fine if it takes out their prime targets. But a virus can't do that. so if they try to kill all non-Christians/non-theists, then they can't target the virus to do that.

if they could, that's some reaaaaaly far out genetic engineering they have there.

How worried should you be about Ebola?

I'M SCARED. SCARED TO DEAD!
Not abut ebola, but with our media making it seem like every passenger next to you on every plane HAS IT!. And YOU'RE going to get it!

Yes, this infection is tragic. The tragic outbreak of our tabloid media at it again.
If people REALLY want something to be terrified about that you will never see covered from the media, is the tragedy to our nation and recovery as a nation if republicans take the senate.
THAT tragedy WILL spread into YOUR world. And do much fatal damage.

But AnyWay... lets keep on pretending our biggest personal worry is ebola.
Let us humor the media.

Just heard on our local news that the area hospitals are making special preventive measure hospital rooms ready for any Ebola patients. Why would they do that? Free media coverage? Do they know something we do not?

Then I hear on TV how difficult the spread of the Ebola is, that the infected person must share a bodily fluid and it is very unlikely it can spread. But a minute later, they show people in hazmat suits who are not anywhere near Ebola patients. Something is wrong here.

I'm getting that: Government is here to help me sick feeling.

People are wearing hazmat suits is either stock footage (gasp! The news is lying to you!) or those wearing them are in direct contact with the patients or things that have come in contact with them. It is a precaution. Same as the hospitals make rooms readily available. The easiest way to stop an ebola outbreak is to quarantine the patients as quickly as possible. If they have to get the room ready after the patient gets to the hospital, they have to be held somewhere until then.

A man just returned from West Africa is being tested for what doctors believe is the Ebola virus at Mount Sinai Hopital in New York City, CBS and CNN just reported a few moments ago.

And yet no reports of any other passengers or staff on that flight being sick. That flight is a good example of how quickly a disease can hop to another country by plane. But also a good example of how difficult it is to actually give Ebola to someone else, if those people exercise common sense (like getting the fuck away from someone puking all over the place).

This is a good message, and it needs to be heard LOUD and CLEAR before people panic.

I believe that the doctor and other aid worker coming in from Africa didn't come in on a commercial flight. I also think they landed at an air force base. The same plane flew back to Africa to get the other person since the plane holds one patient. Maybe you can check facts rather than guessing?

Don't worry, the gubermint already has an "experimental serum" that they somehow have possession of, that just seems to work with this strain of Ebola.

Dear men in black suits, I'm just reading the news.

Dear men in black suits, I'm just reading the news.

The serum is humanized monoclonal antibodies. I think this is a formulation of three, most likely GP1 specific and neutralizing.

I don't understand why people are worried about a virus in another country, the likeliness of it spreading are very slim as i'm sure they put you through tests at the airport.

If we have someone who spreads it here, don't be afraid just be cautious.

Just eliminate the source of it and it will all die down.
