Why does the eBay home page have a new look?
From November 14 to November 27 we are testing a simplified version of our home page to better understand the needs of our users. This redesign is intended to make it easier for users to quickly navigate and shop on eBay. Only a small portion of visitors to the home page will see this test. The objective is to gauge the effectiveness of making a more simplified version of the home page available to users.

Apparently I'm one of the selected to get this simplified version... and it looks incredibly boring. I understand that cutting down on bandwidth costs (I'd imagine cutting off eve 1kb off the home page saves a good deal of money considering the traffic) would save a lot of money, but it just looks really bland and boring, and every once in a while i click on a few cool auctions listed on the front page.

Anybody else's thoughts on the home page (if you get it?). When I'm less busy (i'm currently preparing a few auctions) i'll take the time out to link the new look somewhere :)

EDIT: screenshot of page

by far, the most annoying part of ebay is their constantly changing web design. they are always switching the front page formats; their search formats; their help formats...godammit, just pick one and stay with it. :frown:

It's just a beta page -- it'll disappear after a day or two.

I'd email them with your feedback if you really think it is teh sux0r.
