eBay's competition?

If you could create your own auction site, what would you do different? Yahoo failed. Ubid sucks. Do you think Google will take on the giant using their search technology?

Yahoo didn't necessarily fail - it's just not their core purpose/business. Their name/brand recognition exists, but not for auctions. Yahoo's auction site is still around, but when you think about online auction sites, eBay instantly comes to mind in undoubtly 99/100 people. It doesn't matter what kind of technology Google uses - eBay has a viable prescence and Google would have to offer something unique and get a lot of press in order for theirs to even make a dent in eBay's business.

Nothing for ebay to worry about, but I use Sell.com sometimes. Different kind of site and function, but I use it from time to time.

eBay has no competition (or I should say no real competition) right now. It's all about exposure and it's going to be very difficult to get eBay users to move onto another auction site in masses.
