eBayers: What would you do here?

A guy won two separate auctions of mine for memory using the buy it now option. For each auction, I listed $9 shipping. When he paid the total, it only included $9 for shipping both items.

Now I'm not shipping them separately, but the one box will be a bit heavier... is it worth it for me to ask him to split the difference with me? The total of the winning amounts is $490...

Dunno -- maybe I'm just tight?

He should have asked you what the total was for both auctions and then you could
have been generous to him but it sounds like he beat you to the punch.

So you can either tell him he owes you for the extra shipping costs (if there are any) or just let it pass
which at $490 value I probably would.

In the future if you don't want to combine shipping on multiple items just say
so in your listing.

Since he assumed it'd be $9 without even asking, I'd ask him for the $9. It states clearly in the auction that it's $9 shipping for each item I'm assuming. If he had asked, then I'd have no problem taking $9 for both.

The shipping cost won't be much different, but the insurace will definately be higher. You should ask for more money based on the insurance and NOT the shipping fees.

The convenience of not having to send the junk to two different people is worth the 1% difference.

edit: how many ounces heavier does this make the box?

Yeah... pretty much. As long as it actually doesn't cost more than $9 to ship both items, and given the total of the sale, I won't make a big fuss over it. Kills me though... no way in the world I would have done that without asking.

He didn't choose the optional insurance, so no increased fees there.

I agree with the above

I would ask for the difference, but not push it. If he gives you a hassle, tell him that you will do it this time, but to remember this when it comes to feedback. $9 is a lot more than it will cost to ship memory, unless you are overnighting the stuff.

Just think, while he would hopefully give you a positive review either way, if you just keep it the way it is, with just the 9.00 for shipping, he may leave an even better eval.

The guy didn't ask first because he knew what the response would be. I'd have made him pay both shipping fees. But then of course he'd have held you hostage with the feedback.

Charging $9.00 to ship RAM should be a criminal offense, unless it is a 100 sticks. You should be ashamed of yourself, unless of course you are sending 100 sticks... 🙁

Seriously. $9 shipping for memory? Lame.

id take the deal and move on to the next. you could have listed three auctions in the time you spent on this post. You just made $400+, what was your expense? DON'T risk the negative feedback. Take it and move on, making it clear next time what you expect for s&h fees.

It's normally assumed that if you buy multipl eitems from the same person they will ship them together and the shipping will be less than the individual items separately.

I would have asked the seller what the new shipping total would be and not just paid the shipping from one, but if it's memory, the package should weigh about 2 ounces more for the extra chip? I'd let it go.
