Ebayers: Do you often get e-mails from people asking you to sell the item for half the price?

I'm selling a ps2 video game on ebay. The game came out a few weeks ago and other auctions have it going for $40+. The guy e-mails me, asking if I'd sell the game for $20 to him... Wtf?

all the time, also plenty of emails asking if I'll end the auction if they bid $XX

Well, I can understand the later if the person wants the item right away. But low-balling by a half? Never seen that before.

If you're annoyed enough, I think you can report them to SafeHarbor for trying to bypass the normal auction process

yup, all the time. once i was ebaying my dell axim with 2 extra batteries and an extra 1GB flash card and this guy emails me asking if I would consider selling it to him for $200. They were $580 total brand new. LoL.

Just email them back and tell them they can put in that amount for their bid and they might get it even cheaper.

Too bad if they don't like it.

If you really want to be an ass, contact ebay on them, because it's against ebay's TOS.

It's happened to me twice. I found it pretty annoying, but not worth the hassle of escalating it. I just reply with a quick and easy "no thanks".

I just think of them as spam because, really, that's what it is. They're trying to hunt for a certain type of person(someone desperate for cash) and just mass mailing to them.

Depends on the item. If it's been relisted or shows no interest, I'll end it early. Most of the time, I ask them to either bid the minimum and wait or just wait until it's over.
<Tries to follow the rules all the time.

I just delete the e-mail. I don't even take the time to respond. I do the same thing here too when people lowball me through PM's on FS/FT.

~2 months ago I was selling a laptop for $1500.. Guy offered to pay me $600 on the first of the month and $500 on the first of the next month.

LOL, I just put up a new Dell W1700 on Ebay (going rate is around $425) and someone asked me if I'd sell it to them for $150.

I only had one person ever ask me if I'd sell for xx price. I said, sure, bid that price and if no one else outbids you then yes. (I didn't have a reserve).

Good times.

I've had lame buyers make me offers when I have a reserve price. WTF? Do you think I put a reserve price there for fun? My answer is always "make a bid, see what happens". 🙂 Anyway, never been lowballed like you describe, though.:Q
