ebay?

Anyone with experience getting components from ebay?

I am looking to buy a socket 939 AMD A64 3000+ venice , or better, and probably get the Gigabyte microATX from newegg that has that socket and AGP support.

I've found several trades for AMD CPU's, listed as used for 1-3 months and could be purchased for about 1/2 of the retail price - from sellers with a large number of positive responses.

The savings would be around $50-70

What do you think?

i'd consider buying from this forum's For Sale, rather than Ebay to save money. i've had some major headache's with buying pc components from ebay sellers, and i'd rather of purchased new after. just my opinion, many ebay sellers dont know how to pack items right.

If one buys on eBay, there are safeguards in place like 'item not as described' and full refund of item is mandated. Though you have to ship item back at your expense, at least you are not stuck with a white elephant.
I have been a member since 1998 and have done over 700 deals. I have had only 3 bad deals ever. eBay and Paypal have settled any misunderstanding or off color situations to my satisfaction.
Like in many buying situations, if you have a question about the item shown, ask the seller a question. This will save you many anxious moments. Using your common sense when buying is very important. Before you buy, check the negative responses. Even if the seller is a power seller, he may be a non-responder to emails. That's bad. If I see one like that, I pass the deal.
I've bought many computer components new, refurbished, pulled from new computers and used. I believe in saving money like anybody else, but being careful to ask questions will guarantee happy sailing thru eBay or any other buying situation in the future.

I bought my CPU from ebay and saved a chunk of change! I've bought GPUs, HDs, & software.

Buy from sellers w/ high feedback. Do your homework and read some of the recent feedback to make sure they haven't gone south lately. Also, use the ask seller a question feature. If you have concerns or questions, good sellers have no problem getting back to you.

Good luck and happy bidding!

EDIT: The For Sale forum here is also a good place to look. I've bought some of my stuff here and the experience has been great. You won't save as much sometimes, but you can be sure the stuff is well taken care of and properly packaged and shipped.

i bought my a8n-sli deluxe for 180 when newegg was selling them for 265. It was brand new and from an Asus reseller and covered by Asus when i had to replace the fan. For other parts, i haven't found such a huge discount to really warrant an ebay purchase over an online purchase but thats probably just my bad timing...

it good, bought my 3800+x2 for 215, only prob was that it was slightly used when it came and said brand new. came with 3 slightly bent pins, i bent them back, I wouldve return it if it wasnt for the price, also a 06 stepping but not much past 2.6, i just bought ram cheaper on this forums than on ebay, ocz 2-3-2-5 2x1gb for 135 bucks, best i saw was gskill 2.5-3-3-6 for 135 shipped on ebay
