Because cyvertigers listed $2.99 as his bid. and he listed $3.

Now, when he listed $3 the actual bid was $2.25 so he did go above the minimum increment.

In the future $3.03 is a better bid than $2.99. Some people wont go over the dollar amount.

EDIT: Let me add this. the $2.99 was first but the auction never reached that point until he bid the $3.
