Ebay thread: Would you help your friend list something on ebay if you couldn't verify its origin?

A friend of mine has his own ebay account, and I have my own ebay account. His girlfriend told my fiancee that he has stolen from his company before (he is a truck driver, and has stolen merchandise from a truck in the past). He isn't computer savvy at all and approached me to list some items for him because he doesn't know how to do pictures or anything on his ebay account. I'm not suspicious of these particular items (a used 18" LCD monitor from his apartment, a printer, and a set of 5.1 speakers), but would you list items for someone, using their account, if you couldn't verify their origin?

Just curious. I think this is a question of morality.

I'll give you some background if it helps as well... this past winter, he called and asked me if I would help him list about 5-10 pairs of skis on ebay. Keeping in mind that he is a truck driver and has stolen in the past, I asked him where he got the skis. He said they are expired models and he got them very cheaply (about $100 a pair) and would be able to sell them on ebay for $300-$400 each. It seemed fishy to me so I blew him off. He is a nice guy, but I'm gullible and don't really like to judge people because I've never really been around thieves or anything, he just doesn't seem like the type. He is clean cut and has never given me any indication that he has stolen or does steal things, but his girlfriend has confided in my fiancee that in his past (he is 31) he has stolen more than one time from merchandise on his truck.

Well, I certianly wouldn't sell it under my account. If he needed help setting up the auction, and I thought he stole the stuff, I'd probably say no.

Yes, that's pretty much where I stand. I refuse to list anyones item except my own under my own name. But I don't mind helping him if the items aren't suspicious (such as his used PC parts). But if I did suspect theft I wouldn't do it.

I would not. My online rep is worth too much to me. With over 100 eBay and over 100 Heat refs, it would take the GNP of a medium sized nation to make me risk wrecking them.

If he has an Ebay account, why doesn't he just list under his name and ask you how to put up the pictures? Seems odd to me.

Well, yes, he asked me how much I would charge him if I spent a couple hours with him showing him how to use his camera to put pictures on ebay and maybe a little HTML. However, he wanted to sell his LCD, printer, and speakers ASAP to get money for a new computer.
