eBay thread: Seller with ~2000 feedback scams me

I bought an item from an eBay seller with over 1900 positive feedbacks and over a 99% positive. The item was missing a major part that made it unusable. The part is, however, replaceable and not necessarily custom so it is possible to buy another one and make the item work.

I emailed the seller the day I received the item and said that the part was missing. They responded nearly immediately and said the item would be shipped the next day, apologized profusely, etc.

That was on May the 7th. I have not received the part to this day (nearly 2 months later) and since that initial email they have not responded to 4 follow-up emails. I filed a complaint with PayPal (I followed all the procedures to have my payment protected, thankfully) but it has been pending for almost 3 weeks now and I'm getting a little impatient.

I also left negative feedback but the seller left me retaliatory feedback as "unreasonable buyer" which is, of course, rediculous. I don't sell that much on eBay anymore so the neg doesn't really harm me other than in principle.

Anyone have any input here? Anything else I can do; any more recourse?

Can't you leave more feedback to their feedback or something like that? THought I saw that once... Anyway, just keep going through paypal or if you paid via Paypal through yoru Credit card, call them up and dispute it because paypal is taking too long.

keep harassing them. get their phone number. call them.

when i called a company (with about 10,000 ebay positives, but didn't send me an essential part that was said to be included in the description), they finally honored my request to send me the item that they refused to send after several months. emails were ignored, but only a phone call did it.

be demanding.

I work for a BIG power seller and let me tell you...odds are you're just a number to them...

you really DO have to call if you want something done because they probably get hundreds of emails in a day. Neg really doesn't mean anything, so all you can do is follow up with comments.

That's the thing; not enough money for me to do anything but call and wait for PayPal and if nothing happens, forget about it. Around $100 for the item and like $20 for the replacement part I had to buy. It just annoys me that's all; I hope PayPal gives me my refund and THEN I'm going to call 🙂

what kind of money are we talking about?

while i'm not the OP, i think that the cost factor is irrelevant here. it's the concept of paying for something but not receiving it.

my item cost $9.99 but i wasn't going to give up because i paid for something and i intended to get everything i paid for.

i've been in situations where i've bought items and the seller disabled his account so i lost out. fortunately, it was for two books at $0.99 each + shipping, but it still was quite bothersome.

i was also in a situation when a deadbeat seller (for lack of better term) decided that after he received 20+ negative feedbacks (pocketing about $70 per auction + shipping), he was going to terminate his account. he did, but i wasn't going to go $70 broke. i tracked him down (he used a new ebay ID and created a personal website that was so very similiar to his original one in his "about me" page) and threatened him by email. in order to satisfy me, he not only sent me the desired items, but he also sent me a bunch of freebies as well. this all occurred months after i was scammed.

it's really important to be aggressive when it comes to these things. sitting and waiting is not necessarily going to improve the situation.

the only thing that really sucks is getting negative feedback from these big guys -- and of course, not getting your item back. i am generally careful to try to solve the issue myself before i leave any negative feedback.
