ebay hits you up 3 times...

once to list an item

twice final value fee

3rd pay pal takes a cut..

i dont know about you but thats obsurd..

i sold my item for 80$ with $15 shipping when all is said and done.. im gonna walk out with 85.

of course this is my opinion. im more or less stating the obvious

anyone else agree on the horrendous way they do business

You choose to use their service, so you should pay for it. Don't like the fees? Use craigslist.

And if you owned eBay what would you think is a "fair" price for you to list and sell your item? Or do you believe all services should be free?

You paid 10 dollars for this service that they've spent millions advertising and developing. I don't see a problem here.

Let's break out the math here

95 dollars gross
PP fee = 3.05
eBay fee = probably 6 bucks
shipping = whatever you paid for it

so, assuming you didn't overcharge for shipping, you paid 9 dollars to put your item on a site which reaches millions of customers a day.

Don't like it, sell it elsewhere.

With the live.com cashback promotion, I love buying on eBay and saving $100s on my purchases.

i use there service yes.. they charge you 3 times.. to list, then they take a cut from pay pal, then charge you a 3rd time for final value

i can understand paypal. keep in mind paypal is owned by ebay.. so in essence ebay is knocking me 3 times :)

this was more of a rant.

i have no problem paying to use a service. just seems like gouging.

to list and a final cut seems fair.

So you expect them to pay all the credit card processing fees themselves?

I think it's bullshit that you no longer have the option of MO or PayPal, but 2.9% + .30 cents is more than reasonable to accept credit cards.

credit card fee's... they take the final value cut. then another charge on that. couldnt they use the final value to pay for the credit fee?

pay pal is owned by ebay. so its a one shot deal.

Yup, big time. Full of scammers.

And the only safe paypal account is a closed paypal account.

They're going to get their $10 regardless of how they structure the fees.

2 different services with totally different fee structures.

Like I said, I don't agree that it's basically a forced monopoly (ie you MUST use paypal if you do eBay), but I do paypal for all sorts of other things and gladly pay the 2.9%.

no, because the final fee is whatever revenue they had before the fact. they've had that model for ages now. The forced paypal is new, and thus, has it's credit card fee tacked on there. simple to just leave it that way since paypal is used for more than just ebay.

but yes, their fees are nuts. But we still use em when we have to cause it's still worth it sometimes. I maxed out my live cashback unfortunately, heh.

on an unrelated topic, or related on how you look at it.

i was totally aware going into ebay knowing they took away the sellers ability to leave negative comments on buyer's accounts heh. a couple of my auctions ended today. and some paid right away. and some im waiting on. i think ill probaly get jipped on one. 0 ratings person.. but who knows heh. no way for me to warn others of a bad buyer.

So your final profit is more than you sold the item for and.... this is a problem? You didn't pay the ebay fees, the buyer did by way of shipping. Shut the fuck up and learn about capitalization and spelling before you post here again.

ill be paying out of pocket to ship that.

also you being a teacher today fails. there is no spelling error in my sentence. so i think its you who needs to stfu and learn when to not fail.

I was talking about the complete lack of capitalization, apostrophes, and the spelling of the word "obsurd". Nice try, though.

Now on to the Ebay fees part. If you can do basic grade school math, and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here, then you can get a reasonable idea of what the fees will total up to. Don't like the total? Then don't list your items there. It's really that simple.

thanks :) i will consult your logic every time i make a decision.
since when did AT become such grammar nazi's? seriously now.
im simply saying that for a long time it used be 2 fee's. Since i havent sold something in like maybe 12 months, it is now 3 fee's.

i was just commenting on this system.
obviously im ok with the charges otherwise i wouldnt use the service. im just saying how sucky they are. just a simple opinion.

Well, for one, I agree ebay does suck. But unfortunately it's the easiest way and best way. (Kind of contradictory, huh?) Fees have been steadily increasing and more and more power is being put into the Buyer's hands. That's a good thing if all you do is buy on ebay, but pretty crappy if you're a seller.

Forcing paypal doesn't bother me, as I routinely refused money orders, but their fees are ridiculous. Yea, I know the fees are for Credit Card processing fees...YADA YADA YADA. That's fine and dandy if you're charged that for CC transactions, but you get charged 2.9%+.30 for every transaction, whether it's from paypal funds, instant transfer, or CC funds. Yea, you could cheat the system by having a personal account and a premiere account, but it's difficult to manage if you're selling on ebay.

I'd love to ditch ebay entirely for craigslist, but in my area it's worse. The couple of times I've tried it, I've just dealt with morons. It's a lot easier dealing with morons through an online setting than face to face.

I'm fine with eBay's listing fees and their cut from selling price, but forcing you to use paypal as the only payment method is a ripoff.
