ebay story and question

Happy New Year by the way, may 2014 be a lot better for all of us, please!

So I bought a north face fleece jacket on ebay. It was 2XL and orange with black trim.

I got a woman's fleece jacket. The zipper pull on a woman's jacket is on the left side and it was way smaller. Now I gotta pay for the return shipping to get a refund. The seller has perfect pos feedback. Can and should I neg him?

Make him send you a label in exchange for not leaving a negative feedback. Otherwise give him a negative.

That's what I would do.

You ever think maybe the seller just didn't realize the jacket was a women's instead of a man's? Mistakes happen. If the seller makes good on the return, why leave a neg?

His mistake cost me $8.75. I feel that he should pay for that as well. Why is the $8.75 my responsibility? He made the mistake, not me.

Add this to the list of reasons I very seldom use Ebay anymore.

Any normal merchant paying for return shipping on a mistake they made wouldn't even be in question.

A reputable seller with perfect feedback will provide the return shipping label to ship it back at their expense.

Stop worrying and relax. Ebay has instituted rules over the last several years that heavily favors the buyer. How long have you been using ebay ... a week?

No this is their idea of a solution/resolution. ebay is okay with me paying for the return shipping. I sent the jacket back. I have been buying and selling on there since 1999.


Why not embrace your feminine side and wear your girl coat?

It was way too tight and I looked like a neanderthal in it. The sleeves stopped like 4 inches before my wrists otherwise I would have rocked it.

Why pay shipping at all?

If it was not the product advertised have the seller pay for shipping or file a dispute and since buyer wins most of the time you will get the money back if the person refuses to pay for shipping.

Just dispute and chargeback for full amount if he doesn't agree to pay return shipping. Ask him to refund the money first, send it afterwards :)

OP, clear something up for me. So you already contacted him about a refund/exchange and he said you had to pay for return shipping?

If so, then definitely reply to him telling him it was his mistake and he should give you a prepaid label or something.

eBay will always side with the buyers in a dispute. Always. You didn't receive what you ordered and it's the seller's responsibility to make it right. If they don't, then give them a negative. It sucks for sellers (and I am one occasionally), but it ensures that people will continue to buy using eBay.

Sir, I would NEVER pay return shipping when the seller makes the mistake. There are ways (leverage) to use to "encourage" the seller to make things right. Example: I just bought a set of six "widgets" off ebay. All of the widgets (in the set) worked flawless ... except for one. I contacted the seller who seemed to be ignoring me. The seller has 10,000+ all positive (100%) reviews and I was beguiled as to why I was being ignored. A simple email to the seller fixed everything ... and they sent a replacement widget, shipped, at their expense.

The seller received positive feedback ...

Item substantially not as advertised. Frequently you will need to return the item at your expense, especially if the listing explicitly says you do, but once the item is verified as incorrectly described you should get a refund including your return shipping. I would not neg until the transaction was 100% over, and then its often best to give a neutral and 2 stars, as the seller I think can have a neg removed if they give you a full refund.

Considering this is a used item, seems like an easy mistake for the seller not worth nailing them for unless they refuse to work with you about it.

According to ebay it is the buyers responsibility to pay the return shipping all the time.

I just got off the phone with ebay cust svc and I am done with them. They totally suck.

So I sent if back priority mail. It cost me $8.75. I emailed the seller and asked for the return shipping fees and said I would neg him otherwise. That was a mistake. They called that "extortion." It was also a mistake to mention the return shipping costs in my neg feedback text. I should have just said that "seller sent me a woman's jacket" and left it at that. He was able to have my neg removed and there is nothing I can do about it. They would have left it if I did not mention the return mailing costs.

Ah well you live and learn, but I am disgusted with fleabay. I think that their policies and rules are bull.

Ugh, I nearly had the same thing happen with Amazon. Sold a Galaxy Nexus under the model code specific to Verizon. Guy buys, then realizes it won't work on his network and wants to return it. Amazon suggests (per their FAQ) that I, the buyer, should cover the expense to return as a cost of doing business.

I eventually told the buyer that I would only authorize a return of the total amount minus the costs I incurred to sell it. I had also suggested he sell it locally as it would likely bring him more than what I charged. He did wind up selling it on his own though.

Gotta say, whoever screws up should eat the expenses.

Ah so now the truth comes out, you ordered a girly coat for your transvestite urges but you screwed up on the size and now you want to make the poor seller pay for it. Shame on you sir, shame. :D
