So after around 8 years buying/selling things, it was bound to happen sometime. I sold a user an eVGA 9800GTX, but prior to this he had been messaging me about its functionality and such. From the emails I could tell that I was talking to a 14 year old give/take some years and someone who was not very computer literate.

The sale went just fine but now, 3 weeks later, the bastard has reversed the sale on paypal claiming that it doesn't work.

I am fairly certain that either his PS does not have the juice to run it or that he has totally forgotten to plug in the 2 dedicated PCI-E power cables to the side of the card. Either way me stating "AS IS" and "No returns" will probably not amount to anything because how can you fight one person's technical incompetence? If I do take the return then both of us would've wasted shipping fees as well as I'm sure the card will be jacked up when I get it back. I still have the evga lifetime warranty on it so if it somehow is broken it can be fixed/replaced but still....dumb people piss me off.

He had 106 while I was sitting at 171 so he seemed reliable enough. I'll check out the card after it has been sent back.

Why not try to help him troubleshoot the problem?

edit: nvm. After selling stuff for 7-8 years, it would be pretty time consuming to help anybody that bought something from you.

Because then he is this kid's tech support for the life of the card.

I agree with what the OP did. Cut his losses and move on.

That's what I realized after I posted. Anytime something goes wrong the kid would be sending e-mails yada yada. It would probably be easier just to find another buyer.

you could've at least just reminded him to check the power cable...?

I did. Reminded him to put 2 PCI-E power cables into it but user claims that it doesn't post. I don't see how it can go from my working rig, back into the original box, get sent to him, and for it to not work on arrival. I'll be doing the opposite when I get it back and see what happens. The box was well packaged so I doubt it's a USPS problem. We'll see.
