This is crazy,

I was thinking about buying a cheap laptop. I have a pretty old one sitting around, a pentium 120, which needs to be ditched for something better. I just want to use it for browsing the web and such, maybe like a p3 500 or something.

Anyways, its crazy because laptops can sell for so dang cheap on ebay. (I saw a p3 800 that sold for $400) I think I am definately going to setup an account sometime soon, sell my old lappy (someone else was selling one similar to mine for $110) and I may buy something better.

Are the people who shop and sell on there morons or something?

Have you noticed that you can find brand new laptops selling for $600-700 through the Hot Deals forum, no pricematching scams needed? Given that, $400 isn't really dang cheap, maybe darn or heck cheap though.

If you don't go the new laptop via hot deals route, and do get a used one, you should look at used Thinkpads.

IBM Thinkpads are rock solid and are great for picking up used, because they're often off-lease from corporate customers who took pretty good care of them. My T20 came to me in good shape, with a battery that holds 2+ hours of charge. The T-series are the thinnest and lightest of the IBM laptops (except for the X-series but you won't find them very cheap), the T20 is a p3 700 and they scale up from there.

I paid about $500 for my T20 two years ago, and it had a year left on the excellent IBM warranty.

There is something about spending that lil extra dough which doesnt seem appealing. (granted u get a lot better computer, but i dont know if i need anything that much faster than 500-700 mhz. But I dunno, maybe I'll do it. My goal in the mean time is to just sell this crappy one I have, and see what I can get for it.

yeah, I've made over like 40 threads asking about girls, and girl questions and situations and what not, and ppl become pissed because thats all I would ever post about.

Plus they were mad that I never went out and did anything but rather just sat on my ass.

Don't forget you get a full warranty and a fresh battery, DVD-R / CD-RW combo drive, Windows XP home instead of Win ME, and extra memory is probably much cheaper if you want it (DDR vs. SDRAM).

If you must get used, MrBond's suggestion is a good one, the build quality of Thinkpads is excellent.

 
Don't get a new laptop. You're just going to use it to post more girl threads from remote locations, and that is not a good thing.
