I have been on ebay for well over 7 years (1998). I have always been a buyer, and for ths first time I decided to sell some things. One of the things was a Halo Edition Xbox, which was sold using buy it now, and I wouldn't believe the e-mail I recieved from the buyer...

As follows:

Hello,
Compliment of the season to you. I am Anthony Williams from Alabama USA, but Presently i am on an official assignment in Holland. I saw your item below and i will like to buy it for my son that will be having his Gradution in Nigeria Next week. i want the item directly shipped to him in Nigeria after the payment. i will be paying you with a very secure online payment which is Paypal payment . Kindly send me your address in other for me to make the payment right away, I want you to ship the item via Fedex so as to make it easy for him to collect, I will be willing to know the total cost of the item+shipping to my son in Nigeria. So mail me now because it's urgent.Below is my son's address where the item should be shipped to.
Name....Segun Williams
Address.3 fadeyi street aguda Ogba
City........Ikeja
State......Lagos
Country...Nigeria
Zipcode...23401
I await your prompt respond to my email.
Regards

I send him an e-mail saying i would only ship to a verified paypal address, never get a response, and then he closes his ebay account with zero feedback. So basically because of some scammer, I have to relist my auction, pay the fines, and wait another week for the auction to end..

My father who has 2000+ feedback, has never had this happen to him, and this happens to me on my second auction.

Whats the most blantant attempt to scam, have you encountered?

you will get your final value fees back from ebay and they will let you list it again for free as long as the auction is the same.

you are out time and that sucks big time.

someone did that to me with a laptop. he joined, used BIN on five laptops in one day and only paid for one... told the rest of us he got a better deal. then he was NARUed.

sucks.

btw, i can tell this is a scam, but i haven't sold anything on ebay for so long that i've lost touch on their tricks. how do they screw you over using paypal? do they file a complaint with paypal saying you never shipped or do they use a stolen account?

very true. it happened to me. you can tell ebay that you had been scammed and that you had to relist the item and should not have to pay fees. just make sure you show htem the nigerian information and you should be good to go.

Wouldn't it save ebay a lot of money if they just banned the entire IP block that originates from Nigeria? I mean they could always proxy or VPN, but there's got to be a finite amount of effort these people are willing to give, right?

Yeah, I talked to my father and he said I could relist it for free, but again its the time/money thing. The thing with paypal is that if you accept a credit card payment, (aka you become premier) they can reverse the payment on you, and your item is long gone, and you end up owing paypal.... For all the money I have saved from buying from ebay, its well worth the hassle, I just can't believe that people would fall for something like this..

Not too long ago I bought a 300gb Seagate driver for 118. Since the auction ended early in the morning and I guess not too many users were on, I won the auction. I sent the paypal payment right away and asked the seller to send the drive ASAP. The guy takes his sweet time and refunds my money after several days saying the auction was meant to be for a different drive. WTF? I sent a complaint to ebay but I bet nothing was done.

I believe you'll have to relist it for a fee for now - you can't call someone a non-paying bidder until like a month after the auction ends. eBay will eventually credit your account for the first listing.

Yeah I relisted it because he was no longer a registered member with ebay, so they comped the fees, so I was able to relist it for free. Which I do so yesterday, and another @sshole uses buy it now to end the auction, then becomes no longer registered... this is getting to be a bit much..

well yes, u can file for final value fee credit,
but for some reason, there could be times when u receive no credit back,
I wonder why myself.

yeah a typical situation.

I had someone tell me the same thing, to ship to philippines
well he has over 20 feedbacks and still does something like that

you would imagine a 0 feedback dude

use BIN with immediate payment required. I do this on items that tend to have lots of interest but a higher chance of non-payment.
