Recently bought from eBay a notebook from a seller that seem to be in Italy, at least the bank account was there. Never received the computer and no answer from the seller. The problem, is that I paid by bank transfer, and now it requires legal action that may delay a lot of time and maybe never get the money back.

The seller is distra.electr and appears to be a german citizen living in Italy, because the email to pay was in german but the bank account was to an italian bank.

Also, it looks like the vendor bought votes, because some of the people that voted him are no longer registered either, says "No longer a registered user". So guys always use PayPal even with fees it's great.

The information is publicly available for those that want to check out. It's probably all fake except the bank account so guess:

You get the fail trophy of the month dude.

A: You didn't use PayPal for protection

and

B: You bought a laptop from some schmuck all the way in Italy.

Tough titty said the kitty and the milks on you!

eBay is a little bit on the obscure side. I've contacted them several times to have a profile option to show only articles with Paypal, but they don't listen. It's a little bit tricky to set the option each time you search something, and if you try the mobile app, it's even worse. The last option in the last menu. I know, that's no excuse.

In any case, I'm, from the euro zone and made a SEPA transfer, so as I've been told it's like making the transfer in the same country. I've contacted the police already few weeks ago and said investigations take some time, that they will contact me for further information if needed.

I've asked eBay as well to forbid bank transfers and allow paypal-only, but they say that most of transactions using bank transfer are smooth. I've heard too that scams on ebay are increasing and people is gravitating more towards amazon instead.

No, no, no! You will see if the seller takes PayPal or not. Anything else is putting a bullet in your foot. Bank transfers and all that crap is rife with fraud.

John's right, PayPal or nothing. Wire transfers have zero protection and you might as well have sent cash. Was the deal too good to be true and you took a chance or did you really not know? That's an expensive lesson to learn.
