Can I give you a call and tell you how awesome the camera is when I get it?

Your own mistakes led to this sale by not specifying a minimum amount, timing the end of the auction better, and/or providing better description/images of the item (guess on the last one).

Ship the camera and learn your lesson.

Sounds like you need to familiarize yourself with reserve prices.

Sounds like you need to familiarize yourself with reserve prices.

Reserve prices can scare off bidders. It makes more sense to make the auction end at a day/time when you KNOW it will get maximum exposure and you'll get a fair price.

I do it all the time and ebay has never said anything to me, so I will keep doing it

Damn you guys are being hard on him. He subconciously was just asking us for advice, even though he knew the right thing to do was to ship the camera.

If someone was really going to try to back out of the deal, they would probably do it quietly, and not post about it here.

The OP got an expensive lesson about online auctions.

OP, why would you post this snafu here ... opening yourself up to ridicule?

Yet another reason I just don't even bother with ebay anymore. They're pretty shitty anyway, and then stuff like this happens.

It is the 6.3 mp Rebel, Sigma 18-50 lens, small opteka external flash, 512 mb memory card, battery and charger

If it wasn't for the lens and flash, I doubt that it would be worth more than $80 even if it works and looks brand new. That camera is thoroughly obsolete.

"Just sold the camera locally, sorry"

Also from Uniform Commercial Code:
2-328. Sale by Auction.
(3) Such a sale is with reserve unless the goods are in explicit terms put up without reserve. In an auction with reserve the auctioneer may withdraw the goods at any time until he announces completion of the sale.

I generally interpret it as good to go unless i put "no reserve" in the listing and conditions of sale void any presumption of "no reserve" (ie buyer pays for shipping, only accept paypal yade yada).
