Ebay rant of the day...

Email on an item I have listed:

Dear pliablemoose,

Hello, I am interested in the immediate purchase of this unit and i intend paying via western union auction payments,i would like to ask if you would be able to ship this item after payments must have been confirmed and approved by western union auction payments.this is due to the fact that its demand is quite high in my store and hence there is need to reach you if you would be able to sell this to me.let me quickly say that i shall be handling shipping down to my store in africa so i will not include shipping fees.pls let me know if you can do this by sending your name, address and telephone number to make payment to so that i can proceed with payment right as soon as you get back to me.i await your reply soonest. Regards

My response: What part of NO INTERNATIONAL SALES DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?

That email gets my award for longest run-on sentence in the history of the WORLD.

International sales are where the money is at 🙂 People in shithole countrys (or canada, europe) cant get some of the stuff we get so they pay outrageous amounts for it 🙂 I sold my old 1st gen ipod for the price of a new one to someone in europe 🙂

Nah, the risk/reward ratio is too high for me.

Seconded.

I take it your objection is not the shipping but selling to an international party? Because from what I could decipher of the Eng!lish ("!" = pop noise) he was going to handle shipping it himself.

If he pays by Western Union, is there a good chance he could still rip you off?
I'm not familiar with wire transactions.

Western Union scams only seem to work the other way around. As long as you have the name for who the money order is for you can get it, and once you cash it there's nothing that can be done, barring a lawsuit. If this guy sends PM money via Western Union and he cashes the stuff he's basically in the clear; at that point it is money in the bank. And I don't think PM is gonna ship an item before he has the money in his hands.

That being said I doubt PM will sell the stuff regardless.

Exactly right, it gets so freaking involved, plus I'll make a whopping $10 on shipping too.

I took pity on a Canadian once, lied on the doggone Customs stuff etc... Never again...

To be fair, in this case it sounded like the buyer was in the US -- at least temporarily -- and would take care of shipping, etc. himself.

Hmm.... I had a friend once get tricked by sending half of the payment overseas by Western Union for a laptop. I asked him later what happened and he said he did a stop payment on it, but this guy lies out of his a$$ a lot.

You can't stop payment on a WU payment.

i still like when you post an auction and specify that you are not shipping globally, only to america and your high bidder ends up being from canada or england or some ish...

Canadians always do that. It seems that they think that they're the 51st US state.

Then they want you to lie on the Customs form.

So in conclusion, they don't read or they want to be Americans and they want you to lie for them. 😉

Last notebook I sold on ebay turned out to be a nightmare, I reserve the right to be an ass on ebay & actually get paid without e-stalking the buyer through 2 shill ebay & paypal accounts & threatening to have them arrested....

Was the person living in one country and wanted it shipped to Africa? I had a situation like this where the guy lived in the UK and wanted my cd changer shipped to africa to his daughter in Nigeria(Scam alert went up on that word). Seeing as how he was willing to pay almost $75 more for this changer, i was willing to go along in shipping international on the condition that i would only ship once his money order cleared. Then i found out that where he wanted it shipped in Nigeria was going to cost $1000 to ship. I canceled and alerted ebay in hopes to cancel his bid. They alerted me that the man was on the fbi's watch list for scammers. Luckily i didnt get taken for a fool, but i havent been able to sale it since.

See my related thread regarding international shipping.

Consumers in Canada have to suffer, both at retail locations, and online. We have dick all to choose from.
