Ebay question.

Is it against ebay policy to contact a seller that still have a few days left of their auction and offer them x amount of money to cancel the auction and go ahead and sell it?

Thanks. There's an item I want that has 4 days left on it and I was hoping to just contact the seller and see what he will take for it so I could go ahead and get it as quick as possible.

The reason I ask is because I was on another forum the other day and a guy posted his ebay auction link and said if someone gives him xxx for it he will cancel the auction.
If it's against their policy I don't want to do it. I just don't mess around with ebay too often.

OK, another question. An item that has a starting bid of 200, a Buy it Now price of 425 and no reserve. If no one else bids on this and I bid 200 right at the end of the auction, do I get it?

It's against the Selling Policy. You can make the offer and the seller can choose to do it or not. Either way you aren't the one that would get in trouble. heh.

Have you never used ebay before and don't understand how an Auction works?

in a perfect world yes. But in the real world his friends will have bumped it up to well over $300 by then.

If I used it all the time and knew the answer, do you think I would have asked the question. I have not used ebay in several years and I believe that was before the Buy it Now feature.
Either way, wouldn't it just be easier to answer a question or just not respond?

Never thought of that. Thanks for the tip.

that guy already violated ebay policy.

most people's friends don't bump up the bids, btw. they don't want to force the guy to pay fees and other stuff -- and consequently be responsible for an item they don't want. it's very rarely done.

fees and other stuff? It's just fees, and the FVF are 4% of the final price. As the price goes higher, seller benefits regardless, more is taken from the seller but it's always the same percentage of the final value.
