Ebay Question

I purchased an expensive item (around $380) with BuyItNow. On Saturday night. I then e-mailed the paypal payment, said thanks, and awaited his reply. He replied on Sunday - telling me thanks, and that he would e-mail me on Monday when it went out. We had a few e-mails back and forth that night, so he was very communicative then.

It is now Wednesday, and I never got an e-mail confirming that it went out. I e-mailed monday about the confirmation. Then yesterday. And then today in the morning. I have heard nothing.

Now to his credit, and which is why I purchased in the first place, is that he has 1300+ feedback, with a 99.5% positive rate. He has over 500 verified transactions on PayPal. He is a significant seller, having sold over 30 things in the past month, all with positive, and is in general an active ebayer. His description of the product was in the same format as prior auctions, which on some level, suggests that this wasn't a hijacked account -

Seeing the above, I'm trying not to think of the worst, and instead hope nothing bad has happened to him. But I wrote back today, politely asking why he hasn't responded. I suggested that, as a seasoned ebayer, her should expect that a purchase of this magnitude would create the expectation on my part of adequate communication.

Am I being paranoid?

Yes, you're being paranoid. Some people have lives and might go for days without checking e-mail. If you're going to get antsy over 2 days without contact e-bay might not be the place for you.

I guess you are right. I think part of my anxiousness has to do with my desire to get the item and enjoy it. However, I don't think that someone who has multiple auctions currently going on, and is in the business of auctioning on e-bay, would go days without checking e-mail. 1300 transactions with about 10 a week is alot to coordinate with an e-mail check every few days.

When you're in the drivethrough waiting for your food do you keep asking if your food is ready every 30 seconds? ;)

I totally disagree with this statement.

How can you go days w/o checking email? No one is so busy that spending 10 min to check email is out of the question. Especially if he is doing a lot of business through ebay. Checking email does not require a lot of time on anyone's part. Furthremore, the seller specifically told the OP that he would email him when the item ships out. If I paid for something immediately on ebay, I expect for the item to be shipped the next day (unless it is sunday or something like that).

Now I'm not saying that he hasn't shipped it out, b/c he might very well have already and just forgot to tell you that he did. Unless he is out of town for a business trip or something (even then it's not entirely impossible to check email), there is no reason why he didn't respond to you. Your paranoia is valid in my opinion. I absolutely hate sellers/buyers who do not communicate well in a transaction. That's just bad etiquette. Sellers should always be in excellent communication w/ their buyers.

I would be paranoid too... a day or 2 is OK, but running 3 days, I'd start to worry myself... good reason or not :p

You're paranoid. When I get payment my email automatically sends confirmation that it will be shipped within 1 business day and if they don't receive it within 3-5 days to email me for status or tracking #. I don't give "status" updates as it's too hard to keep track of and when you just email someone with 500 emails in their box it takes a lot of time to go and track down what you ordered and when you paid for it. If their shipping process is automated like mine it went out.

380.00 isn't as high end as you might think.

Speaking of this, I had a guy who paid 3 days ago and my automatic shipment thing told him it'd ship within 1 business day. 2 days later he says I haven't confirmed that it was shipped and he calls twice, send 4 emails within a 2 hour span. I then reply to one of his emails asking what he bought so he says he thinks I'm trying to rip him off since I don't know what he ordered. How the hell am I supposed to know what he ordered off the top of my head. It's a lot easier to ask him for date of payment and what he ordered and tell him it was shipped 1 business day after payment...because all items are than go and look all that information up. He thinks I'm going to all of a sudden start ripping people off after over 400 feedbacks and only 1 negative selling 20 items per week.

Thanks alot, CrazyDe1. That really does calm my nerves a bit. It's just that when I sell something, I ALWAYS communicate. That's how I am. And after he SAID he would e-mail me to let me know when it went out, and then hasn't contacted me for three days, I got worried.

UPDATE:

You all were right. He was out of town, but had shipped the day he said he would. He said that my e-mail to him was one of the most professional e-mails he had recieved and he was sorry for not communicating, but glad that I was a pleasure to deal with.
