So basically, I wanted the information off my YLOD PS3. I had a shit load of hours put into save games that I had not backed up, and other things I wanted. I look for repair places, find one on eBay that seems legit with decent feedback, and decide to use it.
First: Ship it out to the PO Box. UPS doesn't ship to PO boxes apparently, but won't tell you this is a problem even if you print it out and ship it in a UPS store. They try and re-route it back to Wisconsin or something, when it is supposed to go to Arizona.
Next: Finally gets there, whatever. Doesn't seem as professional as a company as I thought when I first started, but whatever, I want my data. Gets it, says they cannot repair it. Auction was for $70 or so plus shipping, they refund me $50 and send the console back. I get it, and the thing is fucked up- UPS must have done it, but the bottom lining is cracked and off, the console itself near the power button is basically smashed open, etc. I take pictures and such and decide to see if it works- apparently genius didn't know how to reset the video, as it worked as soon as I did that. Died after 20 minutes- during that time it wouldn't read discs however...60gb Dec 2006 model.
Next: Contact seller, claims damage wasn't there when sent, blah blah, I file a claim with UPS. Apparently they have to come pick it up and inspect it. Okay, fine- except what they didn't tell me is that IT GOES BACK TO THE SHIPPER. That would be fine if I had any more trust in the "company". I start calling UPS and messaging the guy, apparently "I don't have the console." I show the tracking number "Okay, apparently it has arrived at the office" or something- says he'll wait for the claim and it could take months but says he thinks I am trying to scam UPS into giving me a new PS3. I said, you know what, I don't give a fuck, send me back my console.
Then: Okay, we'll send you it back in a non-business way. "You pay for shipping." I said okay, whatever, when it arrives I'll PayPal you. Then I get a "Sorry, we'll replace the case for free and ship it back no cost, we apologize". Me- "As long as you keep the serial number, fine."
Now: That was the 15th. The 25th I send a "Where is my PS3" message, and get the answer "On its way". I still don't see it. I send another message a few days later asking for tracking information and such, then another one yesterday and have gotten no response.
What do I do from here? I'm confident I'm getting fucked over. I've requested the number from eBay and I am calling until I get someone tomorrow. I've had to deal with eBay and PP before, but this has to deal with a service and UPS and is a whole large fuck up that I should have avoided by going local.
