Ebay/Paypal rant: Am I screwed?

Several weeks ago, I purchased an Intel processor on eBay, from whom I thought was a reputable seller. Weeks pass by with nothing coming, and I email him several questions, to which he does not reply. After about a month with no contact, I decide to dispute it with paypal, and things start to get interesting.

Right after the auction ends (he claimed to have about 10+ of the processors) he changes his profile to private. He sold maybe about 7-8 of the same processor. I notice in his feedback that he received 5 negative reviews in the past month alone (his record on the other hand showed 900 positive with 1 negative before the month).

Now, paypal ended the dispute in his favor, it turns out he shipped something that said it was delivered two weeks ago but I never received anything. (I know there is a possibility that it got lost/stolen) He never bothered to contact me that it shipped, nor did he bother to mark in paypal that he shipped, I only found out after the dispute.

Here's what seems fishy to me:
-He changed his profile to private, and somehow massed negative reviews in a month, and he has not listed anything since that time.
-He shipped a $200+ item from Florida to California with no insurance, using the cheapest method of shipping possible via USPS, even though he has 900+ transactions, meaning he should know how to ship.
-He has not contacted me in anyway, after multiple attempts.

So I go down to the post office to see if maybe it was still in their system. The lady working there tells me that she will try to see if my carrier remembers delivering it. I ask her if that doesn't work out, if I could file a claim, she says I could, but since there was no insurance, I would not be reimbursed.

I know that there's a possibility that the seller did indeed ship it, but is there anything I can do currently? Did I basically get screwed out of $200+?

Do you really think you'll see either the money or the processor? I'm not sure why you are asking.

Paypal regularly screws people out of money. It's how they make so much money. I got screwed out of $300 from paypal cus the seller shipped nothing and I didn't get one cent back and never bought anything off ebay since.

All you have to do is call up Paypal.

And you didn't even have to write all that.

Explain how paypal profits so much from that? They get a percentage, but the seller is the one who gets most of it. Yeah....that percentage is good, but if this was so ridiculously rampant on a scale that they made a huge amount of money off of it, they would lose customers and would start losing money.

Did you pay with your CC through Paypal?

You might have a chance if you did...

By not giving people that get screwed out of money the money the deserve. Paypal gets their percentage and you get nothing. Seems like screwing to me.

Yes but if they made such a huge amount of profit off of just these instances, they would have no customers.

There's millions of people that sell stuff off eBay. Paypal would have gone in the dumps if it wasn't for eBay.

wrong

Before ebay bought them they were even worse. People would literally ship a box of air and Paypal would say that was fine.

Paypal has always been more worried about policies than common sense.

Why didn't you pay for insurance if it was optional?

If you paid for insurance, why didn't you point out the lack of insurance to PayPal?

I'm currently a student with no credit/or a credit card, but this whole ordeal has made me realize how naive and stupid I am.

Don't be so hard on yourself.

Those of us that are flaming you have all been taken by ebay/paypal/someone before. Paypal got me for $350 and I did everything right.

You said this cost you $200, right? It may be time to chalk this up as a life lesson. It sucks man...it really does. But there isn't a lot you can do about it. Just think that maybe this will help you be more careful in the future and not cost you a lot more money.

What about trollhunters? Are they still around?

Always...always use newegg/tiger/amazon....seriously. you're better off finding LEGIT deals there than on ebay.

Perhaps his account was hi-jacked?
