ebay & paypal limited my account for no reason

Okay, I have an ebay account this month. I got ebay verified. I also got paypal verified. I have been selling on ebay and ship out all customer's order on time. I currently have 42 feedbacks all of which are positive. I haven't had a single customer dispute or complaint ever since I signed up.

Last week I logged into my paypal account and they said they needed my social security number. I am well aware of phishing schemes out there. I entered paypal.com from my browser. When I logged in they asked for my SSN so I entered it.

Today I logged into both my ebay account and paypal account and they said they needed me to fax them a copy of my supplier invoices, proof of social security card, bank statements, etc.

None of my customer's can purchase anything because my paypal account is limited, I have a buy it now with immediate payment and because of that I can't get any orders. In addition, paypal limited my account access so I can't pay my ebay fees via paypal.

I tried to get ahold of ebay and paypal but got an automated response from paypal telling me to send them an email. I sent them an email and they replied back to me with an automated reply.

This is getting really stupid. How the heck does ebay expect their clients to reply if they are not there to answer?

Have anyone had this similar problem? Paypal is holding up over $6,000 of mine until I release all this information to them.

They have been holding $40 from me for about 6 months. While it's not 6k, it's still enough for me to get pissed over. This is not counting Paypal screwing me out of $300 either. I just really hate paypal.

Wow that sucks... So far I've been lucky. I tend to move money out as soon as it hits $500 or so, though. Been moving it away even more often since for every dollar I make like 30 cents.

All i can say is.. Get used to it.. I briefly sold a few things i could get hold of for cheap on eBay, and had both my accounts put on hold several times, with no reason given. No complaints, no negative feedback, nothing..

All you can do is jump through the hoops they set, and wait till they do something about it..
Very bad business practices, but they know that there is no real alternative so seem to get away with it..

Guess I don't use paypal enough or something, but I've never had any issues with them, ever but I hear so many people who do. Guess it's just a luck thing. Maybe only 1% of people get hit but it's still a large number.

How much have you ever had in your paypal account at any given time? I think paypal tends to freeze up people's account so that they can make money off the interest.

The powersellers they don't really care b/c they are already making money off the ebay and paypal fees in addition to the interest they have in their large paypal accounts.

I've been with eBay since nov '99 & with paypal since sep '00 and have never experienced a single problem. I have ~630 transactions and have 100% feedback. Roughly 65%/35% buying/selling.

For new sellers doing high volume they want to make sure you're legitimate before they let you sell more. That and the govt is soon going to require your SSN so they can tax you.

QFT. I can almost understand paypals motivation. I used to be a gold level powerseller on Ebay back in 2004 and got burned by selling to another Ebayer who made a living selling there. They built computers and bought some CPUs from me. They couldnt keep up with demand, fell behind on building for a laundry list of reasons and people started doing charge backs on them.

When paypal came looking for money they reversed all the money that this seller spent buying supplies from people like me, calling them fraudulent funds. They tried to take about $3,600 from me. I managed to whittle it down to about $1200 total but it was a nightmare that went on for months.

So I can understand paypal wanting to vet you thoroughly. Before I went "big" I sent them everything they wanted and then some. It was their game and if I wanted to play I had to follow the rules.

Paypal is good for buyers but bad for sellers. I still don't know why Google hasn't setup G-bay, they could really do well. I also like Google Checkout better then paypal.
