Ebay Optional Insurance Question

I had an ebay auction and stated that insurance would be an optional $5. The buyer didn't pay the insurance. I'm just wondering what would happen if the package was somehow damaged during the shipping process. Would I be held responsible or is there nothing the buyer can do because he didn't pay the insurance? Thanks.

well, just know that if something does happen, you still can get drawn into a lot of hassle/trouble from the buyer. He can go through paypal or ebay and it can get messy.

If it's lost, you're still responsible regardless.
If it's damaged, then you are technically in the clear. Although if they paid with a CC, a chargeback is always at stake. Next time make insurance required -- ebay checkout form allows you to do this.
