That is why I stopped. I am not going to risk anything anymore. You can go ahead and try. You will make $500+ in profits a week easily. You would be shocked at how many people actually buy CDs with wedding related pictures.. especially during the spring!

I'd quit my job if I could make $500/week profit on ebay.

That's actually not very much money. You'd quit your job for a potential (and unlikely) $24,000 max yearly salary?

Hmmm...

What if an item has rebates? Like if I bought an item for a good deal, but had to cut out a UPC and mail it in to get a rebate?

Like how much more would that complicate the process if I sold them the computer on ebay?

Would the warranty be void if the UPC on the box was gone?

Well if you are doing it as a business, I'd first make sure your set up yourself at the tax revenue office...it's free they give your coupons to report your quarterly taxes.

Now on to the business...they aren't going to be able to return anything you resell except back to you. If you have a return policy then you can make the rules.

I only warrant DOA, if you don't people tend to find the same item a little cheaper the next few weeks (assuming a 30 day warranty). It's the same with most things, each month they drop a bit until the next model.

Manufacturers warranties are usually good no matter who owns the item, but YMMV there too.

To the guy saying he makes about $200/hr doing nothing he's either lucky or works for idiots. I am assuming if you are really bringing in almost $400k per year you have some clusterfvck days that only you can solve. There are alot of high-end jobs out there for those with the guru-level skills to insure 99.999999% uptime. When minutes down cost millions of dollars paying someone $5-10k a week is par for the course (if they can keep the crap running 😉)

Yes, so I could work from home and spend more time developing websites.

Working from home as a full time job should easily put you into the $30-40k (after expenses) bracket...however, the first 2-3 years can be brutal if you are used to making at least that just doing 8 hour work days.

Successful business owners should be in the very high 5 figure income range once they have a system down (perhaps even lazy business owners)...an aggressive person in certain markets can do 6 figures easy, 7 figures busting tail.

I have some friends/relatives that are now in the income range where they can throw a few $10k at something. Most have opened side businesses with a few minimum wage to $10/hr employees that generate an extra $30-50k+ for them a year and they are hands-off owners.

The hardest part at that venture is finding staff that works and doesn't rip you off. Critical inventory and meeting at least weekly (even if it's just a surprise walkthrough) goes a long way.

Do your friends/relatives just operate on ebay or have they developed other e-commerce type businesses?

I was chatting with a friend who said his friend waited for 7 hours @ CostCo for an XBOX 360.

Xbox 360 deluxe bundle $500, sold on eBay for $1,000 = 100% pure profit

Im at work for 12 hours tonight. So far Ive spent 5 hours online, 1 hour eating, and 1 hour doing real work. My pay for the shift, $2200.

🙂

dang, you make like $183/hour?

Most are not e-commerce actually, one opened a pack and ship/trinket type store, another has a yard business, another a bar/restaurant (after inheriting the business)...my brother and another person have store fronts for network gear (Cisco mostly) and unload a lot on ebay. Some just do notary/wills (Florida is a retirement mecca).

My brother actually started his business while in the military with $10k on a CC. Started buying luggage closeouts (like at Bealles, TJ Max, etc) at 25-50% of MSRP and reselling at 50-75% of MSRP...within a couple months he paid off the $10k and had $10k to invest ... after a year he had enough startup capital to launch his store front. It's been 6+ years.

Personally I think e-commerce type stuff is the easiest to do part time. If you ever have to ship often you will see the private business people with carts of priority mail boxes. Those that seem to do the highest volume have all identical packages. (You can prepack your items this way and just slap a label on to ship when needed).

Thing is with any business, you may be doing more than a typical 8 hour day if you want to make big bucks....once this is done and the business is established often times your days become just solving your employees problems.

Haha, I'm an Anesthesiologist. Night + Holiday= mega pay for me (though the $1200 for a regular shift isnt anything to sneeze at either).
