EBay newb: When you send a seller a "PM/email" do they respond to your email or somewhere else?

Sorry for the stupid question. I am bidding on something on EBay. I had a question, so I clicked on the "Ask the seller a question" link. It pulled up an applet on the EBay page itself, addressed to the seller from me (I had already logged in).

If the seller responds to my email, where does that response go? To my regular ISP email, or somewehere on an EBay page? Thanks much>>>

I've asked seller's questions before and they've always responded to my eBay registered e-mail address.
