Ebay issue; please help

I sold this laptop http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280499684094#ht_500wt_1182

They said it was DOA but it was working when I sent it out...My ad said no returns, UPS automatically insures an item for 100. It turns on but he said something is wrong with the cpu fan and it not being recognized with the motherboard. Keep in mind I've used this laptop for 4 years and never had any issues with it, heating wise either...

What should I do?

I don't want to be a dick but he did install a hard drive and this could likely be because of that. I took my hard drive out, still powered it on and booted from bios fine.

Damn; these guys that won are a laptop repair center, but I know for sure the laptop was working fine...

Then you're gonna get fucked...whether they screwed it up or not...

I'll say it again...Fuck eBay and Fuck Paypal.

FUCK

pretty sure the guy decided the laptop was in bad shape(up to what I described in the ad) and didn't want it anymore

Unless they damaged it, just get it back and sell it again?

I won't get the fraction of what I got if it's dead now.

This was their problem

"We got laptop yesterday, but it is not working. We have turned on and it is complaing about CPU fan.
It seems the problem is in motherboard. Let me know how you can resolve this issue?.
"

This is why I hate dealing with core components or systems that are used. MB is the key component you can't really test out nor trust your buyer not to mess it up.

You always can get farked in the end as the seller no matter now legitimate you try to make it.

Only thing now is to shine the guy's shoes, see if you can get him to fix the issue himself and assist them.

So I asked him what exactly is the issue...I've never seen a problem with a motherboard not getting passed system check because of a fan issue...Actually I've never seen a motherboard post at startup saying the fan has an issue, especially when its a gateway specific motherboard...

Something is up; I told him to check the fan but his reasoning seems to be confusing, especially since he's a laptop repair shop.

I told him to check the cpu compartment (gateways have user accessible) to see if the fan is spinning and/or connected.

anyone agree with my confusion? Technical wise?

They are one shitty repair place if they can't fix the fan issue. I wouldn't be surprised if they swapped out a component that was dead in one of their laptops for yours and now say it isn't working correctly.

Best thing you can do is, offer them maybe like $20 for them to replace the fan. Otherwise you are fucked, ebay automatically sides with the buyer and as you found out paypal has your money on hold (it stays on hold for 21 days or till the buyer leaves you feedback, whichever comes first).

Basically unless they are willing to resolve this you are going to be out the money for the laptop, the shipping, still have to pay the ebay fees, and have a dead laptop on your hands now.

Lesson is, ebay and is a fucking scam nowadays and you shouldn't use it. Sorry for you having to find out like this 🙁

Yeah whats the alternative to ebay nowadays?

I'm pissed; I have an honest reputation on ebay and so does this seller (I think) but seriously a FAN issue for a repair place? Fucking scam on their side.

Yeah; Well if they don't get the fan working, I am going to fight this to the end. I have no negative feedback but neither does he. He has over 2k 100% positive.

On Ebay, can you specify money orders only and that you will hold the item til the m.o. clears?

Yes. Ebay doesn't like it, but yes.

And to those saying you can't withdraw. I know that this is true but for some reason I've never had any issue withdrawing my funds to bank account after selling something on ebay.

In certain categories they will lock up the funds until they are sure that the buyer is satisfied, IIRC.
