eBay - I was almost a complete moron

We have one of those old computers standing around in our lab, and I wanted to give it a little memory boost.

So, although I know better, I think that eGay would be a good idea.
I bid on two memory modules, 64 each, up to $28 (what was I thinking), only to be beat by exactly $1.
Then, I try again, go up to $29 (I am such a fool), and the prize goes up to $46.

So, twice "unlucky", when I was really lucky.
I decide that eGay s*cks, which I knew, so I do a quicky pricewatch and find 2 64 modules for $11 (micron brand) and $6 shipping. I even found a nice $18 64MB expansion for our Lexmark Optra S1250n...
So, for what I would have paid on - you know what- I got another module extra - and I am happy.
I guess today was really my lucky day!!!!

I think my question is if those price battles are done by the sellers, or if those are really just stupid buyers?
I guess it does not matter. What always horrifies me is to see how much K6-2 processors and motherboards are sold for - geez.

Edit: Also a note to self - before bidding on eBay, a quick pricewatch check really does not hurt.

i think its just stupid buyers. I sold a DEAD abit motherboard, Dead amd 1gig tbird, and a dead 256mem for over $300. I had that the items are DEAD in big bold red letters heh ohwell silly people.

Why would you not check what the going rate for what you wanted was beforehand anyhow? You don't just go buying stuff blindly. If you do that on all your purchases i'd imagine you pay too much alot.

<< no offense to any ebayers, but i personally wouldnt buy anything off of there. >>

I still never have and I online shop everywhere else.

i don't usually buy computer stuff on ebay unless i know it's a really good deal. i mostly sell stuff. you can make a lot of money because there are a lot of stupid people out there paying more then stuff is worth. 😀

It's funny how people's final bid value equals or exceeds the current retail value. I think they get sucked into heat of bidding competition. I use eBay when I want something exotic that I can't get elsewhere. When I do bid on regular items, I make sure I don't bid anything over 90% the current lowest retail value.

<< just make sure to check the seller from Pricewatch at www.resellerratings.com >>

I did - only two bad "feedbacks", one guy who waited 3 weeks for his order (which I agree, sux), and another who wanted to cancel his order and apparently got yelled at.
The rest seems to be happy - for $40 I am willing to deal with "risky" sellers. It beats egay, cause if they suck, I'll call my CC company.
