I just bought a gift card using "buy it now" and paid by credit card via PayPal. The seller immediately sent me the following message (I edited out the e-mail addresses):

"Dear reallyfull,

Hi,
I used email ***@***.com to receive payment for this item. It is not paypal email, if you send payment to it, you'll look that: "This recipient is not yet registered."

You can check the transaction in your paypal account and look that the payment is not completed.

Please cancel that payment. It is easy to cancel this transaction:

- Log in to your PayPal account.
-- Go to the "History" subtab of the "My Account" tab and find this transaction (with a status of "Unclaimed").
--- Press the "Cancel" button in the "Action" column.
---- On the confirmation page, press the "Cancel Payment" button to confirm. Your payment will be cancelled and the funds returned to your PayPal account.

So please cancel that payment and resent payment to ***@***.com

thanks !"

This just seems a little fishy, is this a scam? The seller has 15 feedback all of which is positive and recent.

Thanks for your help!

Go check in paypal and see if it went through. If it did, he's full of it.
edit: even if it didn't go through, it still sounds kind of fishy to me.

I checked and it didn't go through. His other auctions are for gift cards too and all positive feedback. The message was sent through eBay so there is a record of it coming from him. Still, I haven't encountered this before and I've been buying on eBay for awhile. Does anybody know if I would still be protected through PayPal if I send it to his other address? I fail at searching the PayPal site. :\
