Ebay Help - Bootlegged DVDs

I recently purchased a set of anime dvds on ebay. I paid about the average price for them, maybe $5 less but I assumed I just snagged a good deal. Upon receiving them I immediately noticed that the video quality left a lot to be desired and that there was audio syncing issues. This was strange because the set seemed so professional that I couldn't imagine that it was a fake. It even came with a plastic dustcover! However upon googling the UPC on the back I discovered that it was a very common UPC associated with bootleg anime DVDs. So as far as I can tell I have two choices:

1:
Contact ebay directly and let them know that I was ripped off. Hopefully ebay/paypal will withdraw the money from the seller's account and give me a refund.

2:
Contact the seller and hope that he is willing to issue me a full refund in addition to the money necessary to ship the dvds back to him. Perhaps he was ignorant to the fact that the DVDs were bootlegged. The problem with this option is that it gives the seller time to escape if he wants to avoid the refund.

Selling bootlegged copies of anything is against ebay's terms of use so in theory I should have no problem getting my money back. However we all know this is far from the truth. What grand wisdom of ebay will atot bestow upon me?

1 Bought DVDs on ebay
2 DVDs are bootlegged
3 How do I get my money back?

maybe you-desu should let us-desu in on your little joke-desu, because-desu, you're sounding-desu like a big-desu douchebag-desu.

EDIT: Just looked it up, and yep, you're still a douchebag-desu.

That doesn't always work out...

Just last week I got a set of bootleg anime as well... through amazon.

OP:
Contact the seller first, if they aren't willing to play nice and give you a refund and cover return shipping then go to ebay.

What anime did you buy anyway?

Ya, bootleg anime is a big problem now a days. I guess you will find some everywhere once in a while.

Like others say, contact ebay and paypal. Did the anime ship out of Hong Kong by chance?

It came from California actually. The guy had around 100feedback, all positive, spread over three years, so it seemed legit.

Just raise a fit with the seller. Threaten to report him to ebay/paypal/FBI/DEA/ATFB/etc etc etc. Even if you don't follow up, the point is to ingrain into the seller's head that you will be a pain in the ass unless you get a full refund. Nobody wants to deal with that shit, not even scammers. There's much lower hanging fruit out there to be had.

Try *gasp* contacting Ebay and asking.

No, you have to go through paypal.

Go do their 'resolution center', click the box for counterfeit software, and then go through their 20 steps or whatever, which will result in you mailing the DVD back and giving them the tracking number, and then they're refund your money.

Yes, you'll still be out $$ for mailing the fake stuff back. That's why ebay sucks.
