Question: As a seller are you supposed to leave positive feedback soon after you have recieved payment? Up until now every one I've bought from has been good in this area but after my last winning auction the person has yet to leave the positive feedback although he recieved payment immediately after the auction. I have corresponded with the guy and he seems to be OK. I understand that it's optional so I really shouldn't get my panties all in a bunch but is there some kind of unwritten rule of thumb here?

If the guy is a high-volume seller he may just not have gotten to it yet. Give him some time. But if he doesn't leave you some, I would remind him nicely that you would like positive feedback.

But yes, it is optional, you can't force him to do it.

Nope, you don't even have to leave feedback. I've learned to wait before leaving feedback because sometimes the buyer comes back later and has a problem with something and I like to keep their feedback rating unassigned as bargaining leverage. Once you give feedback, that rating sticks.

Payment does not necessarily mean a good buyer. If they gave you a check, it could bounce. They could issue a CC chargeback. They could hassle you for a refund because they realized they paid too much for the item and they don't want it. Some may complain they never received an item even though you have the DC delivery information. These things are rare, but they do happen.

I usually wait 2-3 weeks after auction end before leaving feedback.
