Is it tacky to email a seller and offer to pay them a certain amount if they end the auction early and sell it to you?

I think it is. When I have auctions up, people always e-mail me asking that (but that's why I usually use the Buy It Now Option). I just tell them that I set the auction up for a reason, and they'l have to take their chences and bid.

I absolutely hate it.. It seems every auction I put up anymore I get at least 1 email asking me to end it early. Don't people understand the concept of Ebay and auctions?

Acceptable. Make it an acceptable offer though, I go for a little less than the average price of similar items. Don't insult their intelligence by completely lowballing them, they probably know what it's worth.

I use it pretty often when dealing with semi-rare stuff like older cameras, they (especially if they are not doing it professionally) don't have to deal with waiting around for a payment and paying ebay fees and I get what I want without having to spend a small fortune.

However, remember to use caution since it won't be through ebay...

If you send too many of such requests, the other party may report you as a spammer.

When you ask, include the price you're willing to pay at least. It better be worth more than what i would get from the auction though, otherwise i do get annoyed.

I did that once and the guy said he was going to turn me in for violating Ebay policy.
