Ebay Ethics Question

This guy has placed 4 bids on my item and now he is the high bidder with 45 minutes left. He just sent me an E-mail saying he found the item cheaper someplace else and wants to retract his bid?!?! e has 22 positive Evals to his credit.

What would you do in this situation?

Technically that is against the ebay users agreement. I guess it depends on what the item is worth, and if you think he will pay or not.

Well my Item is worth 170 dollars. If he stiffs me I will fireback with a negative feedback 🙂

Tough call, since he was the last 4 bids I dunno? What's the difference in the next highest bid, maybe it's not a big deal and you can just resolve it at end of auction, let him pay the next lower amount? (assuming noone else bids higher).

Tough call. You could always take down the auction and put it up again if you don't think you're getting enough money.

When he bids on the item it is an agreement to purchase that item for the price entered. It clearly says that when you enter a bid. I would hold him to it.

He is shady. Probably just doesn't want to buy it anymore. Give him negative and respute his negative against you. If you have a lot of positives I wouldn't care, but for someone like me with under 50 positives (all positive), I would dispute it for the $20 fee they do.

Bah! Just let him. It's only Ebay. The next highest bidder should be happy, and so should you--you've still got that sale. At $170, the bid increment isn't that high. Don't cry over a couple dollars.

Re list it and make him pay the fees?

I bid and won a item awhile back and when I got the shipping cost (from Australia) I Emailed the guy explaining that I could buy it MUCH cheaper here when the shipping was taken into account. He Emailed me back saying NO Problem and let me back out. He didn't even require me to pay the re listing fee, even though I offered to do so.

And to top it off, he STILL left me POSITIVE FEED BACK!!

What a guy!!

People like THAT make up for all the bad things you hear about Ebay!!!! 🙂

Thats what I would do. Relisting it cost money. Just sell it to the next highest bidder and leave no feedback. It isn't worth making a big deal over I don't think.

What's the next highest bidder (other than him) up to ? Can you tell ? If it's near $170 anyway, let him retract.

Offer him either to pay the re-listing fee or to pay the difference between his bid and the next highest bidder. Who knows, maybe he'll luck out and someone will bid higher before the end. If it's only a couple bucks it's probably not worth the hassle.
