Sorry computer crashed while hitting submit. Got this in an e-mail? is it true?

Dear XXXX

eBay is constantly working to provide a safer and easier trading experience for our members. In our ongoing efforts to prevent unsolicited and possibly fraudulent email, we have decided to allow only User IDs that do not include an email address. This policy takes effect immediately.

Your User ID includes an email address, and must now be changed. To avoid any interruption in your ability to trade on eBay, we have chosen a temporary User ID for you:

New User ID: xxx

Your password and email address on file have not been changed. You will not receive a 'Changed ID' icon because of this change.

If you would like to change your temporary User ID, please sign in at http://pages.ebay.com/ with your new User ID. Then use the 'Change User ID' feature (Preferences area of My eBay) to choose your new eBay User ID. If you have any questions, you can learn more about the 'Change User ID' feature and how it works in our Help section.

For more information on this policy regarding User IDs, refer to 'User ID Policy' in Help at http://pages.ebay.com/.

Regards,
EBay

i got this too ... never got any of the other scam mails. this one has to be bogus, tho - asks for both my ebay AND paypal passwords and then displays them right there on the screen?!!! if ebay was really doing this wouldn't i actually log on to my account and then have me verify my info? also, it asks for cc number, bank account info, and lots of other personal info. just not right.

btw, just to see what happens i left the form blank and clicked on the submit buttion - big surprise, the response wasn't an error (like, i didn't have the field filled out!), just said it had verified my info. yeah, verified it by sending it to some crook in the caymans!

No legitimate organization will ever ask for any personal information from an email unless you've specifically requested it.

When will people learn?

Who cares whether it is a scam or not. If you get an email from any company regarding your account info, go to the source. Forget about the mail and whatever it says, open a new browser window and type in the address of the site in question. Log in to your account. If there are any real problems, there will be messages on your account.

Ugh... I'm so sick of "eBay scam" threads, or scam threads in general.
