Ebay checkout sent wrong information (name/address) to seller and my item was shipped to a stranger!

I will try to make this as short as I can.

I purchased an inexpensive item on ebay and weny through Ebay checkout/Paypal. I did not receive the item after about 3 weeks so I went back in and it turns out that the checkout sent ENTIRELY WRONG INFORMATION to the seller (a different name and address). The item that I bought had been sent to a TOTAL STRANGER.

I contacted Paypal and they tried to give me a bunch of baloney about how they got the information from Ebay and that their systems weren't connected, etc. They even tried to tell me that I must have had this name on my account and that I should ask the seller for a refund (?!?!) WHen I asked to speak to a supervisor, they agreed to give me credit and said that sometimes Ebay sends over wrong information if a person has had the username before (unlikely as I have had mine since 1998).

I did not make a big deal, but what if this was a one-of-a-kind item or something very expensive? Paypal made me feel like I was a fool when this was clearly an error on their part.

I was just curious if anyone else had this problem... I know I will be watching anything that I pay through Ebay checkout VERY carefully.

Always keep in contact with the seller/buyer. Send an email after an auction to make sure you both have the correct information. I'm not sure how paypal/ebay got the address confused, since you should have filled out the necessary info on both systems before.

In any case, good to see paypal not taking advantage of the situation for a change.

Yeah- since this was so inexpensive, I really did not bother... I did reconfirm my shipping address in the notes on Paypal, but apparently if you use Ebay checkout, you don't see the notes.
