I sold a hard drive on ebay and shipped it to the customer promptly. After he received the drive, he told me he realized he paid too much for it, and would like to renegotiate the price and get some money back or he will leave negative feedback to me. What exactly should I do in this case? Just eat the neg rep?

I would let him leave whatever feedback he wants to. Then dispute it with ebay.

yeah, fuck him. you didnt force him to spend anything, he chose to buy at the price listed. tell him that very clearly, and let him do as he pleases. im surprised myself that over the last 10 years or there abouts, i have almost 200 sales and still 100% feedback. i mean i do try to be an honest seller, but i have had a few times where buyers just arent happy no matter what you do and ive just been lucky they leave no feedback at all

No. Offer him a full refund on the purchase price, minus shipping and ebay fees, and have him send it back to you, and then sell it to someone that isn't a low-life ebay negative-feedback extortion shmuck.

Then he shouldn't have bought it in the first place. Buying an item on ebay is a binding contract. If you're not willing to pay that price, then don't bid. It's that simple.

Odds are if you don't bend, he will file a dispute - item not as described. Be prepared.

Fuck him. This is totally unacceptable. Either tell him to eat shit or request full refund as suggested.

Well the message he sent could be seen as proof that the item itself was acceptable even if the price wasn't, so he doesn't really have grounds for disputing due to the item not being as described.

I would go ahead and let ebay know that someone is trying to extort money for feedback right now though. When the neg eventually comes and you have to dispute it, you'll already have some evidence in your favor.

Out of curiosity what model drive was it and what did you sell it for? Not that it matters in his defense, fuck him. I'm just curious.

See my other eBay thread. Never again. I'm getting rid of eBay and Paypal.

If you're a seller, eBay & Paypal will pound you anally w/o lube.

I'd probably just go ahead and report him to eBay and not bother talking to him again, except to maybe send him the extortion link above and tell him he's been reported.

Exactly.

Report him to Ebay, stall for a little time for Ebay to get around to looking at your report, so he doesn't file a dispute in the meantime.

I've heard of this scam before. They will buy an item then try to extort cash from you by asking for some cash in return or they will give negative feedback.

It's one reason to never give the buyer instant positive feedback just because they paid. Always wait until they give you feedback, then go ahead and give them feedback.
