ebay: As a Seller, when to leave Feedback for Buyer?

Is there any etiguette or expectations to this? When is it generally accepted that Feedback should be left, for a buyer?

I'm asking because, in general, I leave feedback for anyone that buys from me after I KNOW that all has gone well with the transaction and that they've received their item (or sometimes not until they give me feedback first). A form of self-protection I guess, in case the Buyer wigs out (though the transaction went properly) and threatens to leave negative feedback (never happened to me, but you never know) I could threaten the same back.

I just recently sold something and I get the impression that the buyer wants his Feedback right away (he paid immediately and I appreciate that) and he promises to give good feedback upon receiving his item.

Comments appreciated.

after he leaves feedback to you. that's when i usually expect feedback. some havent left me feedback at all =\

Depends. I sold some games to some jackoff who insisted I leave it first, and when I left positive he holds mine hostage and accuses me of hacking eBay. Moron

Big sellers on eBay usually leave it after payment (before I leave mine). I from now on will always wait until the other person leaves feedback first before leaving any.

I, also, would say after they leave feedback. To me, ebay is like a store. Just because a customer has paid for the item, doesn't mean that everything has gone 100% smoothly.

If they get the item, then claim it's broken or try to scam you, then it's tough crap for you because you've already vouched for that buyer's credibility.

If they want feedback, then they have to give you some. You do your part first, once you've shipped the item and collected payment, everything else that can happen comes only from them, so it's up to them to say that the deal is complete by leaving you feedback first.

When i first started selling i left it right after they paid, it didnt take long for me to change my ways. I got really tired of to many buyers who would never leave feedback for me in return. If everyone i've ever delt with left feedback i'd probably be up around 400 or so instead im at around 150. Now i wait till the buyer leaves feedback first.

I wait until they leave first, I annoy them everyday and they usualy do leave within a week of receiving emails. There was an idiot yesterday who emailed me saying "I will be leaving you feedback in 3-4 days!" WTF? How long does it take to leave feedback, is he gonna hitchhike to california and use the ebay computers to leave feedback.

I don't leave feedback at all until they've left me feedback. There are too many scumbags that will try to use feedback as a weapon if you've already left them feedback. People will use the ability to use negative feedback when you can't give them a negative to try to pressure you to do extra stuff for them.

hmm i've always left feedback immediately upon receiving the money... i guess i see some of your points, but you could always, if worst comes to worst, add onto your previous feedback, no?

also, whenever i buy something from someone, i hate it when they say they will leave feedback after i leave feedback for them... it makes me feel like i have to give him positive feedback even if service was less than satisfactory (for fear of receiving negative feedback in retaliation).

I'd wait for the buyer to left feedback first. You will save yourself a lot of grief.
A good buyer will understand this.
If you must leave feedback first, check out if that user ever left feedback for other people.
I've seen some a$$hat who have 70 positive and only left 5 feedback in return.

yeah, i feel no lack of courage in leaving feedback for ppl who've had a clean slate with returning the favor

Just think of it this way, you want to make sure your customer is happy with their purchase before leaving feedback. One way of evaluating this is to see what kind of feedback they left for you.

Me, typically being a buyer, I expect feedback once they've acknowledged my payment. But, I understand if the seller doesn't (in case the product is lost in shipment or something sours the deal.) So, once the item arrives I leave feedback and usually get it back.

I leave feedback after I receive the $. When I'm buying, I don't like it when sellers wait until I leave them positive feedback to leave one for me (although most do). After the buyer has paid you, he has completed his share of the bargain and should get the feedback then, IMO

I email them and say at the end of the transaction when you receive your item email me so we can exchange feedback then I wait till they leave it first just so I don't get screwed

Most sellers are into covering thier own ass, so they wait until the buyer leaves feedback. That really pisses the buyer off sometimes, which I've seen result in a bad feedback for spite.

I leave feedback as soon as I receive payment, regardless of what type. It's better to preserve my 100% than get all pissy over a late payment or declined payment.

hehe yup...

I ususally list my crap when I get around to it, so all of my items go up on the same night. Then, after everything is paid for and shipped 7 days or more later, I pull up the feedback page and nail um all at the same time. This approach has cost me a good 10 positive feedbacks, but I sell on ebay to make money, not to collect smilyz. If you're hurting for feedback, post theirs as soon as you get payment and include a reminder in your 'tracking number' email:

Hello,

Your item has shipped. Here is your xxxxx tracking number:

8675309 8675309

xxxxx estimates delivery to your abode in approximately x number of days. Click here to track your package. When your package arrives and is as I described, I would appreciate the appropriate feedback. If it is not to your liking, please contact me and I will make things right.

or the 'follow up'

Hello

I was checking my tracking numbers to be sure all of packages arrived safely and I noticed that no feedback was left by you. If there are any questions/problems, please contact me and I will make things right. If everything looks good, I sure would appreciate if you could leave me some feedback on ebay.

Thanks,
dumb @ss
