Does this really make any sense when eBay holds a 28% stake in Craigslist? They are basically suing themselves over Craigslist just creating a better looking website. The site doesn't do anything more than CL currently does....it just now looks like a 12th grader created it instead of an 8th grader.

Where does Craigslist make any money? eBay gets transaction fees....I wouldn't be surprised if eBay tries to run CL into the ground just to eliminate the competition.

banner ads and such, text ads, etc..

not to mention the larger the community, the larger of a demographic they have influence on.. sometimes direct profits aren't the only attractive interest

They charge listing fees in certain markets.

Yeah it does. Did you even read the article? eBay has 28% a stake in Craigslist and Craigslist is trying to dilute that stake. There are laws in this country that protect minority shareholders for a very good reason.

If you had 28% of something and I had the rest, would you like it if I voted to decrease your share to 25% because I had a majority share? No. As a matter of fact you'd probably sue me.

eBay would be glad to write off the 28% stake if it can eliminate CL.

That would suck. I can't see browsing for hookers on Ebay.

I believe one of the co-founders sold his share to Ebay

eBay is suing eBay because Craigslist has tried to illegally dilute it's share in the company. They're right in their suit and will probably win

Which is a bummer, because I hate eBay and think CL is awesome. Why did they have to go and do something stupid like this? I mean if there was any legal way to screw over eBay I could care less (if it isn't obvious, I'm not a huge fan of eBay), but I don't know how they expected to get away with this little stunt they attempted. As much as it pains me to say it, eBay seems to be 100% in the right and deserves to win the lawsuit.

Someone tell me the words "Craigslist creating a better looking website" weren't just posted. CL is one of the simplest/plainest websites out there. It's circa 1996 if I didn't know any better... the only thing it's really missing are the <blink> tags.
