Ok would any ever buy a HDD off of ebay? Because you dont know what kind of condition it was in and you could end up with a dead HDD right? Can anyone suggest what would be a relatively safe buy?

Bottom line - you can buy a brand-new drive much cheaper from the "hot deals" forum than you'll pay for a used mystery drive on eBay.
it's not the worst but it's stupid IMO. the worst things to buy there would probably be condomsHell no, worst thing to buy on ebay

For example I want like 10HDDs for like maybe 10$ or 20$ and I would put it in a virtual raid (software) with windows 2000. They would be like maybe 5-20GB drives, just a curious thought. What about SCSI drives? I got a SCSI Controller for 50PIN drives and it supports like 7 IDs so was wondering if I could hook up a 7 connector drive cable (I think its very unlikely to be available). Thoughts?

Yea I know the poll is a little redundant but there are varying levels of no, like HELL NO! Or Fsck no, (Coulda added that). Yes I would be buying used HDDs, question is where can you get a reliable drive/s for like $20? Or $10? Maybe I want a small capacity drive.

Yep.
With 120GB Hard Drives for $59 or less with full manufacturer warranty, why buy USED from eBay with inflated shipping?

The chances of you finding seven identical SCSI drives is fairly slim when it comes to eBay, to be honest.
If you can't find 7-connector SCSI cables, the best bet would be two four-disk caddies.
